Russ tanks, Manticore at rear with the CCS, Vets around the front and flank. Nothing moves until they have to, so the LCs can fire at full BS. If I have to advance, the IG formation can crawl forward and probably outrange the enemy. If facing an assault army, the plasma guns and 2 tanks should hold off anything but a complete blitz. With the density of plasma veterans and OoTF, deep strikes and other kinds of enemy alpha strikes should have a rough time getting through.

Your thoughts appreciated, thanks.

From what Im aware the regimental standard does not affect guys if it is in a transport. So its your call if you want to keep it. Essentially I would just go for the x4 plasma guns. Its the same points as a plasma gun so its not like it would make a big difference on deciding.

I would actually ditch the body guards in favor of an aegis line. With all the lascannons it looks like you are trying to stay gunline. So what I would do is use the line for cover so you can sit still and fire long range weapons turn 1-2 and once you've made a dent in your opponent and you feel safe with moving out to capture other objectives then you can do so.

Remove body guards and standard and get astropath to get those vendettas in. Everything else looks good.

Ran a very similar list although I had double manticore, a infantry platoon and triple vendetta. I was very successful with it, I believe it's very solid.

It has abit of a answer to everything, although I have struggled against cron air/ wraith wing.

What do you plan to do against AV14? You do not have much against it

Lothar.

He has a manticore, a squad of meltas, a load of vendettas, some lascannons. What else does he need to bring?

Looks very solid as is, the only things I'd suggest are:
-lose the bodyguards, inside a Chimera they are kind of useless.
-swap standard for plasmagun.
-I'd upgrade the executioner to a Vanquisher (same sponsons and hull), but this is just preference, it's still good if you prefer the executioner.

Other than that, it looks fine. I'd not bother with demolitions on the meltavets, as it's not worth 30 points for a demo charge that you probably won't get to fire, and meltabombs that hopefully you won't need.

LOL^

This list played well. Plenty of defensive power, as well as some semi-reliable offensive shooting.

Good point regarding the Reg. Standard not working in a transport, though I thought that it DID work in a transport, I'll have to look that up. Obviously if it doesn't work .. no point in bringing it, I'll agree with that. Regarding my infantry being in boxes - in a typical scenario where we're piled up in the back, troops running for any reason means I'll be losing entire squads instantly at the table edge. There are lots of way to prevent this from happening, but the Reg Standard is the cheapest (as someone pointed out, they are in AV12 transports, no need for anything fancy like a Lord Commissar). In the event that troops DO flee, once their outer shell is busted, as often happens, they are 50% more likely to stay on the table with the Reg Standard. I'd consider the Reg Standard @ 15 pts a good deal, if I can keep veterans on the table.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, I want to add that in most cases, I end the game with very few, or zero chimeras left on the table. AV12 is good, but it's still only AV10 in assault (then there's fast melta, flying melta ...).

I get lots of players busting a chimera with one unit, then shooting the squad with another unit. It's legal if it's 2 separate enemy units shooting.

It's prudent for me to expect this outcome, and prepare for my veterans and CCS to perform at 50%-25% of their original force, and without the aid of AV12 armor. They end up pinned, they end up taking morale tests, they end up getting shot into a mist and dying in the crater of their transport.

So, I'm not saying that this is unfair, because I still win games. But I try to take measures against catastrophic loses in chimera explosions, and failed morale tests.

The point is - Chimeras are vital to the survival of IG infantry, but they serve only to delay the death of the squad riding inside, NOT to protect them for turn after turn until the end. It's a way to delay the enemy, and provide the IG an opportunity to retaliate. In certain situations, the Chimera can provide mobility. Most of the time, the enemy comes to me, so I don't need to close a gap, or try to outrun them.
