Does the apothecary in the command squad now have everything listed in the wargear list? (which is: power armour, bolt pistol, chainsword, frag grenades, krak grenades).

Because if so, then he has an extra attack in close combat, right? because of the chainsword and bolt pistol?

Here is why i think the apothecary has an extra attack in close combat:

the company champion says: "One Veteran may be upgraded to a Company Champion, replacing their chainsword with a power weapon and a combat shield". So we see that only the chainsword is replaced and the champion gets a power weapon and combat sheild and keeps his pistol (as the model shows as well).

The apothecary line states: "One Veteran may be upgraded to an Apothecary, taking a narthecium." My understanding from reading this is that the Apothecary does not actually replace any items to receive the narthecium meaning that the narthecium is just added onto the model (despite any lack of representation on the model), and the apothecary does not have a separate wargear section telling us otherwise.

Does it seem that way to anyone else?
I know there have been confusions and erratta regarding some of the command squad upgrades so I am wondering if this reads the same to everyone else.

why this matters to me:

1. I have a tournament (casual, but still) on Saturday and would like to know before i get into close combat at go "um.... i think it's like this....." and then we waste a half our checking it out.

2. I am running Salamanders and I would like to know that I can have my Apothecary master-craft his chainsword for his close-combat endeavors.

and 3. I'm so used to last codex being that the apothecary just had like, a boltgun. or a bolt pistol or a chainsword.

and I kind of think Games Workshop was used to the "implied knowledge" users had with the old codex and forgot to get everything in there that they needed. (a.k.a. the special weapons for veterans which: why wouldn't they get them? but it wasn't in there so anyway now i'm just rambling.)

Any help you guys have would be awesome!
Thanks!

You're correct, the narthecium does not replace other wargear, he will still have whatever is listed in his basic entry.

The confusion is only regarding other wargear upgrades, the basic weapons listed in his entry are not affected by the Apothecary upgrade option.

5th edition C:SM the Apothecary was already included in the command squad by default and had a chainsword + choice of boltgun or bolt pistol.

6th edition C:SM the Apothecary has chainsword + bolt pistol after upgrade. He then may or may not choose other wargear options (He may or may not be a 'veteran' after his upgrade, but this is what people are arguing with no Apothecary specific FAQ update yet). In any case, always ask your TO if you are in doubt about how something will be played in a tournament.

You could master-craft the chainsword, but why not choose the bolt pistol? You would also have a master-crafted ranged attack and the pistol does the same in cc as the chainsword anyway.

That way,then left

So in the original version of the newest Marines Codex it's a straight upgrade to an apothecary? That's odd because the French one has it that the veteran exchanges his pistol for the narthecium. That might be why the Errata team never answered my question about it, thinking I was just a loon...

Awesome, thank you this is the kind of confirmation i was looking for from the community.

Right. And that is a whole other can of worms. I am fine to keep my Apothecary sans special weapons just because well, i'm used to it, and also i don't think the "medic" would be mega-equipped for battle. (it would be pretty awesome sometimes though)

Ah, yes. Valid concern. I forgot to mention that he is riding a bike and already has a twin-linked boltgun he will be firing, so either way it works out.

Although, you bring up a good point and when i run my command squad on foot I'll be sure to remember that.
Thank you
