Blood-Drenched Death Company Marine

Greetings Dakkaites!
I come to you now, to accomplish two things.
One, I wish to show off my latest project I'm working on between painting on my Vostroyan I.G. tanks (Please see my gallery for an example of said tanks! Chimera #2 is nearing completion, just more slowly than I would like.). This project, as you might have guessed, is a Deathwatch squad or two that I intend on using/fielding with my I.G. I'll add more to this as I get things completed. For now, on to my second point!
Two, I hope to, by hook or by crook, come across any spare plastic Deathwatch shoulder pads to complete this squad, and perhaps build a few more in the not-too-distant future. I will toss this out there, if you happen to have any spare plastic Deathwatch pads taking up space in your bits drawer and that you don't plan on ever using, do let me know! I'd be happy to take them off your hands and would be forever grateful for the opportunity to have them.
Now, on to the good stuff. I finished getting these guys put together from left-over marine bits I've had laying around and am actually quite pleased with how they came out. Pictures first, then some explanation.
And
(Both photos are in my gallery, if you'd care to check them out in more detail)
The squad has a single Imperial Fist plasma gunner to deal with hard targets such as the dreaded wraithguard constructs, along with a Crimson Fist (the dual wielding marine with the old bolter, and a bolt pistol) to ensure the squad has anti-ork tactics covered. Gotta represent the sons of the intractable Rogal Dorn.
The squad's resident second in command is the Iron Hand veteran in the squad as well, holding the Auspex (had to get creative and shave the Skull off of an ad-mech techmarine shoulder pad from a rhino kit. Came out pretty good I think!) to represent the steely sons of Ferrus Manus.
What Deathwatch squad is complete without an Ultramarine veteran to bring the Tyranid killing expertise to the unit? And true to the Tyranid killing specialists that he is, this Ultramarine has a Frag grenade at the ready. Also, with his bolter loaded and locked, a veteran marine of the Silver Skulls chapter has his bolter aimed to put down any xenos the squad comes across. These marines represent the venerable Roboute Guilliman of course.
Lastly, my personal favorite model in the squad, the lone marine representing the mighty Sons of Sanguinius. Veteran Sergeant of the squad, the Blood Angel marine sports a one-handed combi-melta (No small feat!) along with a power sword as well. Any armor the squad encounters, he's ready to drop it swiftly so the marines can finish off any unlucky survivors who crawl from the wreckage.
I'm very excited to get this squad finished (once I get my hands on three more plastic Deathwatch shoulder pads!) and painted. I've always loved the mythos of the Deathwatch and am glad to have this project, long on the back burner, underway!
Next up, once I get a few more needed bits, will be a Deathwatch Librarian in Terminator Armor (Using the Grey Knight Terminators as a basis for the Librarian model) in the near future. The Librarian will have a Force Sword, Psychic Hood, and possibly a Storm Shield as well, though I may just arm him with a Storm Bolter and hope that's enough to save on points. Not sure on that yet. We'll see, and pictures will come once I get that mini a little closer to completion.
For now, thanks for reading if you got this far. I'll update again with pictures once I get the squad a little further along.
Take it easy everyone.

Thanks Nerdfest!
I've gotta base them next, and then get three more plastic Deathwatch shoulderpads.. somehow.. :(
Then it's on to basecoating and painting. I'm debating getting a razorback painted up after that. We'll see.
More to come soon!

It'll look better once I get the last few shoulder pads I need, get 'em based and basecoated, and start cracking on the paintjobs. Hopefully soon, we'll see of course.

I've got this very thing languishing among my unfinished projects. I'll take so pics so you can see what can be done other than simple shoulder pad replacement.
What would be cool is to model some with xenos tech (using or examining) of various flavors. Putting extra wires/components would make it look like the DW is studying the alien tech for the Adeptus Mechanicus.
Speaking of shoulder pads, do yourself a favor and get some of these:
The detail is far superior to the plastic shoulderpads and the gun is set up for the four types of ammo the DW uses. The helmets are nice, even if you don't use them all.

Agreed, and I have enough of those shoulder pads, and bolters to do a 10 man squad up with those (Much more detailed) shoulder pads and Deathwatch Bolters.
My plan is to have a stern guard squad using the older metal deathwatch shoulderpads and bolters up so they'll be distinctive from the 'tactical marine' element of my force. The tactical squad models will get the plastic, less detailed shoulder pads, the veterans will get the more detailed metal pads to make them distinctive and easy to pick out on the tabletop. That sternguard squad will have some Xeno tech floating around on them perhaps, an Eldar Shuriken Pistol, or chain sword? We'll see
Thanks for the feedback! I greatly appreciate the ideas.
Take it easy, and I'll update later. Off to prep for work here.

So, not to necro a thread here, but I figured it would be remiss of me to start a new thread for this squad when I already had a thread open here in the P&M forum.
Without further ado, here's my (finally!) completed Deathwatch Sergeant.
May I present Veteran Brother Sergeant Antenor, of the Blood Angels.
And showing the underside detail of the power sword:
Next up is the Iron Hand marine, second in command of the squad.

Ok! Finally finished the first half squad of Deathwatch Marines for my allied force! I'll get right to the pictures first.
(Apologies, all I have is a less than stellar cell phone camera, will try and get better pics soon)
This is basically a tactical squad armed WYSIWYG, Three bolter marines, one Plasmagunner, and a Sergeant w/ a power weapon and Combimelta. I felt the addition of the meltagun would help in the long run should there be a hard target this squad gets close to, or gets close to the squad. The power weapon is mostly rule of cool, and I tried out a conversion that worked pretty well and decided to roll with it. Very happy with the basing, and while I'm not 100% happy with every little nuance detail, overall I'm very very content with how the squad looks.
I'd love any constructive feedback anyone cares to give. I'm not the best painter, but I tried to capture each chapter represented in their modeling and pose. Next up will be a squad of Sternguard, a Terminator Librarian, and a Deatchwatch Captain should I ever decide to field this as their own army.
Thanks for looking, and I appreciate any and all feedback as always.
Take it easy.

Hey ya Barksdale!
I got them from a friend, they're resin casts he did up for general use and I absolutely loved them for use on a killteam oriented army or force. Each one has some pretty cool layers of detail and some have higher levels on one side than the other, but most all of them can accommodate a marine's wide stance without issue, and the few that can't due to bits in the way or what-not can be used with a pair of running assault marine legs to good effect.
I basically glue the marine to the unprimed base, lay down a good primer coat of black over the entire mini and base, then start painting from the base up. My scheme is Leadbelcher and Copper with inks (and the new Nihlakn Oxide technical paint on the copper parts) to help weather the bases.
Appreciate the question, hopefully I answered it to your satisfaction. The bases themselves are no different from any custom bases you can order from companies that do that kind of thing.
Take it easy and be looking for the next Deathwatch member in the near future!

Hah, yea Warboss, I "accidentally" started painting a Vostroyan I.G. army... Hence the year between starting the squad and getting them to this point. hah
Thank you for the kudos also, Much obliged on that end. I think an entire force done up in this scheme and with this kind o basing would look very very cool. I'm excited to see how it turns out to be sure.
I'm going to be painting up the first Sternguard marine next, specifically an Imperial Fist marine using the more detailed metal Deathwatch pad on the left shoulder. After that, it'll be on to my Deatchwatch Captain. Really excited to get the Captain started up, I'm going to have a lot of fun painting him I think. Power/Artificer armor, Relic Blade, and a Plasma Pistol. Depending on my mood, I may paint this captain up next instead of of the Sternguard Imperial Fist. We'll see.
Stay tuned for more. Take it easy for now.

Just a quick update on the Deathwatch Captain (decided to go ahead and get him knocked out, then work on the first Veteran marine). Got the base mostly finished, and am going to go ahead and finish the sword up also before I do the highlighting and remaining armor details and cloak. Already painted the shoulder pad up also as you can see.
Here's the WIP:
and
I'm leaning toward red for the cloak, but am unsure. What say you guys? Would Grey be better?
Would love some input on this, I'm kinda stumped. Maybe blue, purple? Red is the front runner at present but I've got a few other options at my disposal beyond Red, though Red does suit him as he's a Blood Angel.
More to come soon. Thanks guys!
Take it easy,
-Red__Thirst-
Automatically Appended Next Post: Just finished the Captain off, not going to do anything crazy on him as far as the cloak goes, as much as I'd like to, my freehand abilities are woefully sub-par for that kind of work. Maybe in the future, but for now, not going to chance it.
Please let me know what you guys think.
Minor touchups on a few spots I noticed in the pictures above will happen shortly, but beyond that the mini is finished. I'm quite happy to have it done and am already prepping the next deathwatch squad member for paint before I head to bed shortly.
Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated and thank you for looking if you're reading this.

Ok! Here's the next completed Deathwatch marine!
First, the WIP:
As you can see, he's a Crimson fist. I start each marine with their chapter shoulder pad and get it as close to perfect as I can. Helps me get motivated since I don't assembly line paint, but rather focus on each marine individually. It gives me time to really get a mental image of the marine in my head and work out their 'personality' while I paint the rest of the miniature.
here's the finished mini (may do some very final touch ups in the near future, few things I noticed in the pictures that aren't readily apparent to the naked eye in normal lighting). Hope you guys like!
Thanks for looking. Any and all constructive criticism welcomed and appreciated.
Next on the chopping block: a Flesh Tearer veteran marine, and then another Ultramarine to add to the squad with the two Son's of Dorn.
Take it easy.

Yea, my photo setup leaves a little to be desired at present, but I'll try and get a few other/better pictures using a better lighting setup soon. Appreciate the suggestion!
Hopefully I can get the tactical squad finished soon, and then wrap up the Sternguard squad and Librarian in terminator armor.
More updates to come. See you guys then.
-Red__Thirst- Automatically Appended Next Post: Quick update on the Salamander heavy weapon marine. Been working on him some tonight, got some headway done, and am happy with how the base shaped up, along with some of the preliminary metallic work prior to the armor highlighting.
Next step is to go ahead and get the armor highlighted and then work on the eyes, misc details, and finally the heavy bolter. The marine is shaping up nicely, though I am fighting with a little bit of the 'fuzzy' base coat from when I spray painted the mini's base coat. Still, no details obscured and with a couple of good thin coats of paint, the fuzziness is all but not noticeable. Just making the model a little more labor intensive is all. I also tried to go with a dried blood stain on the base to give it a bit more variety, along with making the most of where the spray paint fuzzing happened on the base. Pretty pleased with how it turned out.
On to the WIP pictures!
Thanks for looking, and take it easy for now everyone.

And one more down! The Salamander marine took a little longer to finish than I'd like, but I'm pretty pleased with how he came out, even with the little bit of a mishap with the primer. Not bad, but you'll see some of the effect of it in the pictures. In person it's not nearly as noticeable, thankfully.
On to the pictures!
Still have a touch of very minor cleanup to do here and there, but overall I'm very pleased with how the model turned out. I had initially planned on this mini being a blackshield, but I figured I'd try and see if I could make the salamander decal work, and thankfully it did.
Thanks for looking. Next on the chopping block, is the actual black shield marine in the tactical squad.

Finally got started on another Deathwatch model for my small force I'm building.
Squad 2's second in command, the Dark Angel, still very much WIP.
Not to necro a thread, just figured I'd wake this one back up since I've taken a breather from painting on I.G. tanks for a few minutes to knock out another deathwatch member or two.
What would folks like to see next once I finish off this mini? I've got a White Scar, an Ultramarine, and a Space Wolf waiting in the wings. Anyone have a request?
Thanks for looking. I'll post up more photos once I finish off this guy and get started on the next one.

First, the pictures!
Very pleased with how this marine turned out. Probably one of my favorites with his pose, and general demeanor. My favorite is still my Flesh Tearer, but this one was a lot of fun to paint.
I've done some restructuring on the minis I have and what I'm going to do to field this force using the current space marine codex.
I've got Deathwatch Captain hailing from the Blood Angels, and a Deathwatch Librarian in Terminator armor of indeterminate chapter origin (Captain finished, Librarian still WIP, likely going to be a black-shield perhaps?)
Backing up these two characters, I have one 'kill team' of 5 marines (a tactical squad, designated Killteam Alpha) which is my Blood Angel armed with a Combi-melta and Chainsword (made an arm swap for the power sword. Looked cool, but not what I wanted for a 'shooty' squad), the Iron Hand as the squad second in command, the Ultramarine, the Silver Skull, and the Salamander Heavy Bolter marine as the Squad's heavy weapon operator.
The second 'kill team' of 5 marines (again, a Tactical Squad, designated Killteam Beta) which will be lead by a Space Wolf armed with a Power Sword and a Bolt Pistol, backed up by this Dark Angel, a White Scar, an Ultramarine, and lastly the Crimson Fist armed with a Plasma Gun. (Yes, the Dark Angel being second in command to the Space Wolf is by design).
Lastly, the third squad of 8 marines will be Killteam Omega (A Sternguard Squad) which is led by the Flesh Tearer armed with a Combimelta and a Chainsword. The second in command of this squad is an Imperial Fist marine, and the rest of the squad is filled out with a Crimson Fist, an Ultramarine, a White Scar, a Silver Skull, and two Black Shields.
I have three models left to paint for Killteam Beta, and Five left to paint for Killteam Omega, along with the Librarian. There is also one random black shield I assembled and then realized I didn't need, so he may wind up being the 9th man of Killteam Omega perhaps, or I'll use him as a basis for a third tactical squad killteam. We'll see.
Thanks for looking and I'll get proper full squad shots up shortly once I finish off the Librarian and the rest of Killteam Beta.
Take it easy for now.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed. |

Just finished off another squad member for the second killteam of 5 marines.
Please tell me what you think.
Thanks for any critiques. More models coming down the pipeline. Just finished off the shoulder of the 4th squad member, a white scar marine. Work in progress pictures will be forthcoming soon.
Take it easy for now.
-Red__Thirst- Automatically Appended Next Post: Quick update: Next WIP shot for the coming deathwatch marine to be painted next, a White Scar:
Very happy with the shoulder pad, will be working on the base next.
After I finish off this bad boy, I'll be starting work on the Terminator Librarian in earnest. After I finish off the Librarian, I'll start finishing off the Sternguard killteam.
Thanks for looking! More updates to come soon.
Take it easy.
