Me and my brother are new to Warhammer 40k, he's playing orks and i am trying to help him get his army started. What point level is good to learn orks? Right now he has a ork battleforce box, a lootas box 3 aobr deffcoptas and a box of boyz. Can anyone help us?

good so far, add a warboss and some bikes and more boys!

Should we go 500pts or 1000pts?

500 points is good to start. Stick with something like 1 HQ, 1-2 Troops, and 1 of anything else.

Well the best point level to start playing with any army for 40k is 500. All you need is 2 troop and that's all other wise the three of the others still applies.

For him I would suggest a list like this

15 boys all shootas
15 boys all shootas
10 Ard boys with hand to hand weapons with a nob and a claw in a trukk

5 lootas

1 death kopta with rokkit
1 death kopta with rokkit

Forgot to mention he has a warboss sorry bout that.

I always did out force org chart for 500 pts as

2-4 troop
2 heavy
2 fast
2 elites

And just so you and him know, orks are one of the great armies that he can convert anything to be a ork something. Tell him to look online on ebay to make his army. Examples being chaos hellbrutes. They are 4 bucks a piece on ebay. You can buy 3 of them and do a little conversion work and you have 12 dollars of killa kans!

Later on, you might wanna take Ghazgull Thraka, he's a CC monster! If you are footslogging, it is HIGHLY ADVISED that you take a big mek with a KFF, to help keep your boyz alive while they head towards the enemy.
