I've been playing 40k for about a month and I'll be attending my first non-FLGS tournament in two weeks (TSFHT in Vancouver,Canada). I've been playing several variants of this basic semi-serpent-spam list but with a wraithknight, warp spiders and Eldrad at 1850/2000+

Now, this tournament is 1750 points and I am experimenting with the following list. Please tear it apart and let me know where it could be improved. I do have 48 spare points in the roster to play with as I'm not sure where to go at this point...

Thanks in advance guys

Total Roster Cost: 1702

HQ: Farseer (1#, 120 pts)
1 Farseer, 120 pts = (base cost 100 + Eldar Jetbike 15) + Singing Spear 5

Troops: Windrider Jetbike Squad (3#, 61 pts)
3 Windrider Jetbike Squad, 61 pts = 3 * 17 (base cost 17) + Shuriken Cannon x1 10

Troops: Windrider Jetbike Squad (3#, 61 pts)
3 Windrider Jetbike Squad, 61 pts = 3 * 17 (base cost 17) + Shuriken Cannon x1 10

Troops: Dire Avengers (6#, 220 pts)
5 Dire Avengers, 65 pts = 5 * 13
1 Wave Serpent, 155 pts = (base cost 115 + Ghostwalk Matrix 10 + Spirit Stones 10 + Holo-Fields 15) + TL Scatter Lasers 5

Troops: Dire Avengers (6#, 220 pts)
5 Dire Avengers, 65 pts = 5 * 13
1 Wave Serpent, 155 pts = (base cost 115 + Ghostwalk Matrix 10 + Spirit Stones 10 + Holo-Fields 15) + TL Scatter Lasers 5

Troops: Dire Avengers (6#, 220 pts)
5 Dire Avengers, 65 pts = 5 * 13
1 Wave Serpent, 155 pts = (base cost 115 + Ghostwalk Matrix 10 + Spirit Stones 10 + Holo-Fields 15) + TL Scatter Lasers 5

Troops: Dire Avengers (6#, 220 pts)
5 Dire Avengers, 65 pts = 5 * 13
1 Wave Serpent, 155 pts = (base cost 115 + Ghostwalk Matrix 10 + Spirit Stones 10 + Holo-Fields 15) + TL Scatter Lasers 5

Fast Attack: Crimson Hunter (1#, 160 pts)
1 Crimson Hunter, 160 pts

Heavy Support: War Walker Squadron (2#, 140 pts)
1 War Walker Squadron, 0 pts
2 War Walker, 140 pts = 2 * 70 (base cost 60 + Starcannon 5 + Starcannon 5)

Heavy Support: War Walker Squadron (2#, 140 pts)
1 War Walker Squadron, 0 pts
2 War Walker, 140 pts = 2 * 70 (base cost 60 + Starcannon 5 + Starcannon 5)

Heavy Support: War Walker Squadron (2#, 140 pts)
1 War Walker Squadron, 0 pts
2 War Walker, 140 pts = 2 * 70 (base cost 60 + Starcannon 5 + Starcannon 5)

Thoughts? I'm likely to face Lots of other Eldar and Tau maybe even a stripped down Quad-Tide, plus El-Tau,Tau-El, ScreamerStars, Wraithwings, Hound Rushes etc. etc.

First of all, let me say hello and welcome you to DakkaDakka! And the hobby. Hope it gives you as much fun as it did me over the years.

Secondly, I'm afraid you broke some rules with listing those individual points cost. It's perfectly fine writing the final cost of the unit as a whole(say, for example, like this: Serpent with Scatterlaser, Holofields and Shuriken Cannon - 145 points), but listing points cost for every wargear and/or model in a unit is against the rules.

On to the list. The list is evil, to be honest. Only a few things I'd change.

First is give two of those War Walker squads Scatterlasers and give one of them Brightlances. You can do the Scatterlaser/Starcannon combo as well. That serves as extra AT punch that you lack(how are you dealing with AV13-14? Crimson Hunter isn't enough, by a longshot). That Brightlance squad puts out 4 BL shots that will realibly hurt vehicles.

Other thing I'd suggest is to change that Farseer into an Autarch. Give him the Mantle of the Laughing God, Jetbike, Laser Lance and Fusion Gun and go around hunting vehicles and weak backline scoring or fire support units. The Mantle should keep you safe from harm, as long as you're not fighting other Eldar or Tau, in which case you can hide him outside of marketlight range or out of LOS until the major threats have been neutralised, then punch him through to the opponent's backfield for Linebreaker or contesting.

The reason I suggest an Autarch is two-fold. First, you need the Reserve roll boost or nerf(mostly the nerf, since you'll want your Hunter to come AFTER other fliers so it can do its job before it's shot down and your jetbikes should be kept safe in reserve for as long as possible) and the other reason is that you don't have a lot that needs guiding in your army. Yes, Walkers are prime targets for Guide, but your Serpents are all twin-linked and Eldar are BS4 across the board, making Guide not essential(I'm running two Farseers at 1750 points, so I'm a big fan, I just think your list can do without one, especially considering that you really should get an Autarch due to the fragility of the Crimson Hunter).

And third, I'd strongly suggest ditching GWM and SS on all of your Serpents, maybe even Holofields. That is 140 points. With that you can get your Autarch and you can upgrade the Crimson Hunter to Exarch, making him BS5, which is a huge deal, as are Precision Shots). You have exactly 95 points left. Just enough for 1 squad of 5 Warp Spiders that you can DS(again, making use of the Autarch's reserve rolls) and kill something important. They are survivable, cheap and incredibly killy for their points. Those 5 Spiders move from 11-36 inches(6+2d6(movement phase) + d6(run) + 12" guns + 2d6(assault move)) and can run and shoot after their DS, which allows them to get out of the way of retaliation or spread out to prevent blasts from wiping them out. All in all, one of the best units in the game atm.

You don't really need Marksman's Eye on your Crimson Hunter. It's a nice upgrade, but I'd go for something else for those 10 points. Give your Autarch a Laser lance instead of the Lasblaster. You already have a ranged weapon(two, in fact, you have the jetbike TL Shuriken Catapult and your Fusion Gun), but you lack a melee option. With Hit and Run that you get from the Mantle, you can keep assaulting with those 5 S6 AP3 attacks, which is pretty great.

Otherwise, a pretty evil list, like I said.

Well, my pick would be a bit different. Instead of an Autarch I'd take a Farseer, give all Warwalkers scatter lasers, nothing else, and add underslung shuricannons to the Serpents. The Jetbikes would have more impact with a shuricannon. A Crimson Hunter is not a must have. Your config. is a bit too expensive. Small Warp Spider units are just for harrassment, not everybody's taste.

He has -nothing- to handle AV 14 then. This way he at least has a meltagun from the Autarch and 4 BL shots.

Though, for just 1 point more than those 5 Spiders, he could get 6 Swooping Hawks, which are an amazing unit, but they require a bit more thought to use than the Spiders.

Keep the list the way it is only, put BL on walkers and all will be good...

Normally I field two hunters because of all the interceptor out there but still one is better then none.

Good luck at the tournament!
