Here's what I've put together for a round of 750 point games. Some of it I'm quite pleased with, some of it less so:

Unit 1 - Spiritseer and 5 Wraithguard in a Wave Serpent with Holo Field, Twin Linked Scatter Laser, and Shuriken Cannon -- 375 points -- this I feel is quite solid.
Unit 2 - 5 Rangers -- 60 points -- this I'm not impressed with, but it's there due to the requirement for two troops choices, and I'm not certain if Storm Guardians or footslogging Wraithguard would be any better!
Unit 3 - War Walker with Scatter Laser and Starcannon -- 70 points -- this seems pretty solid
Unit 4 - 5 Striking Scorpions with an exarch, scorpion's claw, and stalker -- 135 points -- this will be outflanking. I'm concerned 5 may be too small, and of course the 67 points for the one wound exarch is a concern, although he does hit very very hard at I6.
Unit 5 - 5 Fire Dragons -- 110 points -- dragons on foot seems the weakest option in what I've put together; although I'm not certain what, if anything, to substitute in instead!

Perhaps I delete the fire dragons and the rangers, and sub in the wraithguard on foot, using the spare ten points plus remove the Stalker power to add another scorpion? Of course, having two units that can outflank in the rangers and the scorpions is helpful for linebreaker and stealing enemy objectives (in the rare cases that 5 Rangers can survive to do so, which would be just once in my experience).

Other options I have available to me are:

5 more Wraithguard
A Brightlance Falcon (no other weapons option, but does have Shuriken Cannon also)
7 Dark Reapers
A War Walker with Brightlance and Starcannon (no other weapons options)
8 Swooping Hawks -- no special weapon exarch
Another Fire Dragon and a firepike exarch
5 more Striking Scorpions
Storm Guardians with 2 Fusion Guns and 2 Power Swords (16 total)
5 more Rangers
8 Howling Banshees
Maugan Ra, Baharroth, and Jain Zar

Your opinions/suggestions appreciated!

Thanks,

V

I would drop the footslog fragons and take a small reaper squad with eml exarch. Better range, can deal with av and mow down marine squads for fun. 375 points on 7 models at this low points cost is alot but if you wanna keep em consider d scythes, yyes this makes them more expensive but 5 flame templates are scary

Drop reapers, and scorpians. get war walkers, and warp spiders.

Interesting, I like the idea of the range and firepower of a reaper squad. On balance, of course, they are even more fragile - 3 toughness three wounds for 110ish points.

Probably a better choice than the dragons, thank you.

reapers are squishy as you stated, which is why i generally dont run them.

to easy to kill 5 guys with toughness 3. war walkers and warp spiders are both better choices by far.

Whilst smaller in number they have 2 big advantages, 3+ save (and likely in some form of cover) and range.

Though of course when sternguard pop in all academic

Going with the models you have available, I agree with reapers. Giving them S8 missiles is expensive, but they do the job of dragons from a distance, meaning they might actually get to do their job. An exarch with fast shot+night vision is also good if you can swing the points. At the lower value, a few reapers can do some serious damage, but as stated they are fragile.

I would drop stalker from the scorpion exarch outright. It is near worthless when you wound most enemies on a 2+. Take monster hunter instead. Boosts the whole squad, and re rolls to wound against most of the enemies you would not wound on a 2+.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Also with reaper ability to ignore jink saves they really round out nicely

Thanks, Doc, advice appreciated! Good catch on the Exarch. I will re-jigger the list.

Agreed as far as war walkers and warp spiders. I just checked my shelf, still no beautifully painted warp spiders there, and only one walker with Brightlance and Starcannon. That load out isn't nearly as good as double BL or as SL/SC, but I guess it isn't all that terrible...might be worth a try.
