I got to see these in-person at the NYC MakerFaire last month, and they really are quite nifty!

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/smartjars/smartjars-pegboard-organizer

You can get a dozen in various colors for $36 at the early bird price (which are still available) or $30 for a dozen of one color. You can get a whopping 25 of one color for $50. Including shipping in the US.

Just thought I'd share, I already have a pegboard in my basement and tried out the sample I got at the MakerFaire last night, it's pretty sweet! And having looked at the price of pegboard organizing bins before, I think they're pretty darn cheap. Finally, the fact that they're sealed means I'll feel safe putting wargaming parts in them (for instance, I've got 40 jump packs languishing in a drawer... will probably give them their own jar).

I'll take a size comparison shot of the sample I got tonight, but here's the specs:

SmartJars® are clear cylindrical containers, 2½ inches in diameter and 4½ inches tall, with a clear, snap-tight lid. The container will hold up to 1¼ cups (10 fluid oz.) On the pegboard, the dock takes up 3 inches by 3 inches and can be arranged directly adjacent to each other, either vertically or horizontally.

You can also get a much better idea of their size from the KS video, where they put all sorts of doo dads in them:

Well, this is the blurb on the KS page regarding size:

SmartJars® are clear cylindrical containers, 2½ inches in diameter and 4½ inches tall, with a clear, snap-tight lid. The container will hold up to 1¼ cups (10 fluid oz.) On the pegboard, the dock takes up 3 inches by 3 inches and can be arranged directly adjacent to each other, either vertically or horizontally. SmartJars® are 100% recyclable and made in the USA.

Could be quite handy, though US only shipping means I'll have to wait for retail (and then it depends on price point and shipping to the UK)

Edit:
And ninjaed whilst I was looking for shipping options.

I have been looking for something like this!! The only thing I have found to date were twist tops that you had to remove from the pegboard to use.

I love this.

I fething love pegboard.

Now if only someone could make something like this for paint storage. The only thing stopping me from jumping on this is trying to figure out if Canadian shipping is included.....

Yeah, it looks to me like they're going with an expensive international shipping method (like USPS Priority Mail flat rate boxes, maybe?). The only affordable way to ship internationally from the US now is first class (but it has to be under 4 pounds internationally).

If you want we can split a pledge and I can ship them to you at actual cost, though . Just PM me!

What's the advantage of these, over just zip lock bags for example?

It's just a big step up in organization / presentation. Zip lock bags in a drawer are what I use currently, but this should make things a lot more accessible and easier to find quickly

Its cute, but it doesn't seem to be that cheap for organizing a large number of bits..

something like this still seems better:

The presentation part I agree on

I don't know about organization though. I'm personally perfectly content with zip bags in marked boxes, but to each their own I wish 'em luck.

@cyporiean
I have had several of the tuperware style that you show and still struggle with finding generic things. The blue and yellow shelves will fill with dust and debris (unless you live in an industrial clean room )

If you need mass storage then yes I agree that several of the tupperware style that you show would be better but you would need some shelving to make them accessable.

I can see myself using these when I am doing armies and just mass cliping stuff off. I can also see these getting some of my smaller paint mixing pots for airbrushing off the table until needed.

Cyp- The tackle box is what I use at home for bits, but I just find it a big hassle to pull out and search through... I actually have a little cabinet from Michaels made to hold a bunch of them for crafting, but I can't easily look at any one and see what's in it. It's just not as accessible, although it is VERY cheap!

The second option you show is what we use at work, and it's very effective. However, it's more expensive. I found this link for a set of 24 bins for $73, plus $15 shipping, for a total of $88. And that's all in one color.

http://www.bin-store.com/pb-c-qus220

Here you can get 25 jars for $50 all in one color (or $60 to mix colors).

I think it's an in-between "consumer" solution... you probably won't see these replacing the bins you showed in your second pic in commercial settings anytime soon. But for my basement, I think it could look pretty cool! With the added benefit that if a cat gets after them, the jars are sealed and so bits won't go flying everything.

Anyway, just a cool idea I think and I'm happy enough to try out a dozen for $30 - $36 shipped ($36 for me since I'm mixing colors).

I have so many bits that i just throw all like bits into a shoe box. Importent bits like the specil weapons go into small craft ziplock bags to make them qicker to find. But go into the same box.

Im interested in useing this system to store other things like unopened glue, fresh razor blades, magnets, ect. If i could find a peg board paint rack to replace my homemade getto one then i would have the perfect set up.

But paying more in shipping then the actul product kills it for me.

I think the idea is quaint, but it does require the person to have a pegboard at their hobby area (of which I don't ). Best of luck with them, but I think I'm going to go with grandpa's tested method:

Personally I'd want lids that can half-open, so you can pull parts while leaving it on the pegboard.

Neither did mine, but he collected it when his kids and grandkids did. He had nails, screws, pins, paper clips, w/e he could put into a jar he did. And then he labeled it. Like I said, I like this SmartJars idea, but I don't have a peg board in my hobby area, so I can't take advantage of this storage system.

They seem nice - but I don't see what they offer over my current storage solution of little medicine bags (100 for $3) in a few tiny cardboard boxes.

Last post from me here, just wanted to point out that this one ends today. Personally I think this will help me get all my bits organized and, more importantly, visible/accessible so that I remember what I have to work with, and can get to it easily!
