Hey,
I had thought about slowly building up a Iron Hands chapter list to supplement my Salies however I'm not usre I got them right...so I thought I'd try a vanilla list and see which chapter Dakka thought would best suit them
I'm not a tournament player, I just enjoy a fun game, but want to be competitive, and not cheesed up
this is my suggested list, please make comments, and please suggest the best chapter tactics to use with them

Command Squad - Company Standard, Company Champion, Apothecary, 2xCombi-Plasma in Drop Pod
T - 5 Man Scout Squad, Camo-Cloaks, Sniper Rifles and Missile Launcher, with Vet Serg
T - 5 Man Scout Squad, Camo-Cloaks, Sniper Rifles and Missile Launcher, with Vet Serg
T - 10 Man Tac Squad with Plasmagun, Vet Serg with Combi-Plasma

tactics would be...
Scouts Hold on Backfield Objectives, Centurions try to move up the field slowly (I run a 3 man group with my Salies, T5 W2 seem to survive reasonably well)
Captain drops with Command Squad to harass enemy and try and take eye off the Centurions,
once into Reserves, each Storm Raven is supported by a Storm talon using the Escort Craft rule, ravens cargo the tac squads to mid range for objective holding, taking out air units or tanks as they go, supported by the ravens stripping light armour and infantry
does that sound effective and which Chapter is best for this sort of deployment?

I'd say either CT: Iron Hands or CT: Ultramarines.
For the former you get a nifty bonus that always comes in handy, with the latter the Tactical doctrine enhances the alpha strike capability of your list significantly as well as giving re-rolls on a charge distance with your Captain with the assault doctrine.
Otherwise the list is pretty solid outside of the configuration of the Captain and Command Squad, but I presume you don't want to tamper with them for flavour reasons.

Well for more competitive play I feel a good strategy is to give a Captain AA and the Shield Eternal so effectively you have a 3 man Terminator Squad with Storm Shields minus the extra attacks. The Lightning Claw is good and all but I feel its kind of wasteful on the Captain platform as it leaves his challenge capability being pretty meh. On the contrary I feel a Thunderhammer or Power Fist with strong consideration for a storm shield opens up those alleys.
The Command Squad's Champion and Flag Bearer are a bit meh and don't really fit in that well; personally I'd take more specials and ditch the combi's for specials too. Unlike with Sternguard (who are worth considering too in their place) there's literally no reason other than cheapness to go for the former over the latter.

Ok, so if I remove the veteran sergeant status from both the scout squads, and remove the command squad, plus loose the combi plasma and lightening claw off the captain I can...
Give the captain a power fist and the shield eternal
Get a stern guard squad stock with a drop pod
While they would lack combi weapons, I'd still have pistols to draw for the. Assault phase, so wouldn't loose a round of shooting going in, and they have the alt ammo giving me plasma shots, ignores cover shots and alike, but at the loss of some teq killing and no apothecary
Because of that last fact, should I go iron hands for the feel no pain? Automatically Appended Next Post: having talked with my wife (who plays too) she's against Iron Hands Chapter, what about Black Templar or Imperial Fists?
I could swap out the tactical squads for crusader squads instead, still keep them in the Storm Ravens?
