While the fluff is pretty cool and you can really get into the IF spirit, what does everybody think of the special rules? How about relics?

I could see an allied deployment including:

Lvl 1 or 2 librarian with the Bones of Osrak and Telepathy, combi-bolter

Tactical x9, combi-plasma, PG, bolters, pod
Tactical x10, combi-plasma, PG, bolters, pod

The pods would allow the tacticals to get in range of the Close Ranged Bolter Drill and should put the hurt on other basic troops and weaker units. Flamers wouldn't be bad either.

I can't think of many other setups where the supplement codex rules would be super-advantageous. Being able to put shooty centurions in the Elite slots would open up the Heavies for multiple TFCs and devastator units.

Beyond that I feel that the rest of the special models and rules are mainly fluff oriented. A couple of the Warlord traits are pretty good but are they worth giving up access to the really good relics the normal codex provides?

Anyway, overall I think it's a fun, fluffy addition to the codex and enjoyed the read.

What do you guys (and ladies) think?

Definitely worth it if you were playing Fists. The bolter drill change is good, and the the Librarian one as you said is very worth the cost. So you get a few minor boosts, but basically for free and a pretty decent Warlord table.

If you are planing on closing, so like from drop pods the sentinels of terra are very good. Otherwise I would not bother, the loss of the relics is a pretty tough pill to swallow.

Remember extra warp charge does not mean an extra mastery level. Just means that if you get a warp charge 2 and 1 at level 2 you can cast both.

They can ally with the standard dex, same as any chapter as long as they have different chapter tactics.

Imo they are best as allies, getting the centurions as elites is nice, freeing up a heavy slot for another thunderfire cannon.
