Hey dakka,

I've been posting a lot here over the past week or two trying to make the most competitive CSM Thousand Sons list possible, and I really appreciate the help everyones given me. Every post has given me things to think about. Hopefully this thread will put the nail in the coffin.

1997pts
Ahriman (Warlord)
DP of Tzeentch- Wings, Armor, Black Mace
9 Tsons- Land Raider (Ahriman goes here)
10 Tsons- Rhino
15 Cultists
15 Cultists
Heldrake- Baleflamer
Heldrake- Baleflamer
Vindicator with TL bolter
Vindicator with TL bolter

I feel pretty comfortable with this list. Ahriman can infiltrate himself and his TSons up in the LR and be very, very selective with who they shoot and who shoots them by using the unbreakable land raider to control line of sight, which very few armies these days are equipped to kill easily in 6th edition because so few people take land raiders anymore. Its meta because it isnt meta. I feel I have enough troop choices, a good way to deal with terminators and a decent way to deal with armor and air, and more than enough MEQ killing power. Its in no way dependent on rolling a 3 for infiltration, and theres no deepstriking besides the heldrakes which is fine.

Even the tiniest criticism is appreciated. 4 points is another cultist.

THANKS!

I have 2 issues. Firstly is the rhino. I know troops need mobility, but it is such a gift of a first blood point to any opponent. It makes it very easy to slow those troops down too.

My other issue is the TL bolter. I thought the option was a combi-bolter? or are these the same thing? In either case, the Vindi's will probably not be shooting their awesome pie plate of death at anything that is also worth popping random bolter shots at! As you said, these points all add up to more cultists. (Not my favourite even though I have some!)

Its all your call obv. dropping the rhino means the tsons are on foot. But they have an invun anyway, not a massive issue. However, the downside to all my suggestions is what to do with the saved points. Honestly, I dont know. More tsons maybe. perhaps a gift for the DP. Or many more cultists.

Jus my 5 cents anyway!

I appreciate it!

On the rhino: I will be infiltrating this on a 3+ roll during deployment. The rhino is to make sure my TSons get into rapid fire range turn 1. It'll also block some small arms fire.

On the TL bolters: yes combi-bolters and TL bolters are synonymous. I take them so that if I roll a weapon destroyed result for a penetrating hit, theres a 50% chance that the TL bolter will be destroyed instead of the demolisher cannon. So for 5 points, im changing the chance of a penn hit making my vindi worhtless/dead from a 1 in 3 chance to a 1 in 4. (weapon destroyed and explode results)

OK, cool. They make perfect sense then.

Can I ask what might be a dumb question, how are you getting infiltrate? I know I'm missing something, but I just can't see it!

You can not infiltrate the troops and the transport. Troops with the infiltrate rule are treated as having outflanking in transports instead.

So skip the land raider and maybe even the rhinos. If you can some how buy the transports, start the game disembarked, infiltrate the troops. If the d3 units of infantry do not get infiltrate then can they embark on their transport turn 1?

You cannot infiltrate the Land Raider with Tsons only a rhino, the outflank rules state you may take the DEDICATED TRANSPORT for the squad infiltraing which you can only take a rhino as for Tsons. Only way to infiltrate a Raider is to use Terminators.
