hhey guys im looking for a bit of help putting a wolf army together for a small campaign
here is what i have so far.

HQ

wolf lord - runic armour, 2 power fists, wolf tooth necklace, belt of russ, thunder wolf mount

TROOPS

grey hunter - 10 - 2 melta guns, mark of the wolfen, wolf standard, drop pod

grey hunter - 10 - 2 melta guns, mark of the wolfen, wolf standard, drop pod

FAST ATTACK

5 thunder wolves - 5 storm shields, power fist

HEAVY SUPPORT

long fangs - 5 las cannons

this is just short of 1500 points, my thunder wolves unit is a major power house that draws fire and just doesnt die, very expensive but well worth its points, its a huge distraction while the rest of the army hits from afar and from behind, i ned some tips on how ii can go about this without needing such an expensive unit, i feel i have become to reliant on it because of its huge success rate. any help is appreciated thanks guys

drop a powerfist on the lord and swap it for a wolf claw, you still get the +1 from 2 specialist weapons but it lets you attack at inititive if needed and re-roll hits/wounds.

You need another pod, preferably 1 on the long fangs, to drop empty so the 2 with hunters can come in 1st turn

Agreed about the Power Fist. If you insist on taking two Specialist Weapons, grab a Wolf Claw so you can strike at Initiative when against hordes of gribblies and not facing anything with a 2+ Armor Save.

Also agreed about taking a third Drop Pod. Let it come down empty, and now you get both Grey Hunters Packs on Turn 1. Hitting the enemy harder initially will help you out a lot more later in the game.

So, you want to ditch the Thunderwolves and see what else you could take? That's a very open question. 400+ points can buy a lot of things.

I love the TWC, but if you are looking to replace them with something else, consider something armoured perhaps. You have a very mobile list ATM, and something like a predator of Vindicator will have some mobility while still laying down a hail of fire each turn.

I still love the TWC. :p

thunder wolves are a big part to my strategy and will almost always draw attention away from my hunters, the unit alone has survived and beat down both a blood thirster and scarbrand in the same round of combat, its very difficult to part with such a strong unit.

i thought you coulnt benefit from the +1 attack with power fists unless you have 2? has this changed in 6th ed?
