So, after a few days of rumbling through different chapters and different designs for each, I've come to this suggested build

I think it has plenty of anti-horde, a bit of anti MEQ/TEQ and should be ok against tanks/flyers eventually

1746 points of imperial fist successors (thinking invaders as this is going to be kill or be killed, but should be fun/competitive enough for local play)

HQ - Captain in Artificer Armour, Power Fist and Storm Shield - 150pts
joining a Command Squad with Drop Pod, Apothecary and 4 Storm Bolters - 170pts

2 x Scout Squad, Camo Cloaks, Boltguns, Heavy Bolter, and Vet Serg with a Combi-Grav - 186pts

2 x Tactical Squad 10 man with Gravgun, Heavy Bolter and Vet Serg with Combi-Grav - 370pts

2 x Storm Talons 220pts

2x Storm Ravens with twin linked las and twin linked melta - 400pts

1 x 3 man Centurion Squad with Gravcannons and Grav Amp = 250pts

tactics would be to Drop the Command Squad close to enemy flank, and start moving forward through some cover (hopefully!) shield should help keep unit alive from in coming fire, and apothocary can help with FNP

tac squads arrive via Stormravens, each escorted by a talon, Devastators take out TEQ/Armour with gravs, supported by other grav weaponry as is arrives/is in range

Scouts hold backfield objectives/move forward to take mid-field through the game

Ravens and Talons deploy the tac Squads in midfield objectives, but also take out infantry (talons) and armour/airpower (ravens)

I think this list should be fine vs hordes, less fine against high armour targets, although with the number of gravs around...it should be able to poke some holes

what are peoples thoughts?

I personally wouldn't go for those upgrades on your Tactical Squads and Scout Squads. The Heavy Bolter is obviously an anti-infantry option, so when the squad fire at a horde of Chaos Cultists, the Grav Guns would be next to useless.

Chose what role you want each unit to have. Perhaps have one tactical squad as your anti-infantry, and have a Heavy Bolter and Flamer (and possibly Combi-Flamer). On the other Tactical Squad, have a Gravgun and a Lascannon or Missile Launcher.

Melta is always a good bet too. Perhaps trim the Combi weapons and Veteran status from your sergeants and invest in some Multi Melta Attack Bikes.

Remember, you're Imperial Fists, so you have Tank Hunters for your bigger guns.

while you are running IF tactics, i think your cammand squad would benefit better with some type of special weapon. be it flamer (always fun), grav (expensive but worth it) or plasma (dont kill yourself) it will increase there effectivenes.

hey Ninja, and Rob

thanks for the responses,

regarding tac squads, I'll have a play at making an anti armour/anti horde squad, maybe Melta, Multi Melta and Combi Melta for one, and Flamer, Heavy Bolter, and Plasma Pistol for the other

maybe remove the scouts vet serg gravs in place of storm bolters, less effective against some things, an extra bolt shot at range each time might be of some use?

finally, specialist weapons would be great in the command squad, I'd missed the FAQ on command squads now having access to specialist weapons, maybe a flamer and a gravgun? while one is useless against termies, and the other against tshirt saves, they should be able to live happily together in that 3-4+ save area?

I think that the command squad would be okay with just bolters.

Kudos on using Heavy Bolters on Tactical Squads. I am using them with Ultramarines chapter tactics.

I know from playing against IF that Heavy Bolters do great...

OK so having taken comments into consideration, how does this look?

Captain with Artificer Armour, Storm Shield and Power Fist - 150pts
joined by a command squad with Apothecary, 4 Storm Bolters, in a Drop Pod - 170

Techmarine with Servo-harness joining either the drop pod command unit, or a tactical squad (grants bolster defences for backfield objective (2+ cover save for scouts in ruins) and has assault plasma gun and flamer to add to the party up close - 75

2 x Scout Squad with Camo Cloaks, Boltguns, Heavy Bolter - 146

2 x Tactical Squad with Flamer, Heavy Bolter, Serg with Combi-Flamer - 330

2 x Stormtalons - 220pts

2 x Stormravens with twinlinked las and twinlinked multimelta - 400

Centurion Squad with Grav cannons - 250

leaves me with 1741 so 9 points a drift

hopeing that with the addition of the techmarine I have a bit more close combat grunt, plus assault weapon assistance, as my command squad are a delivery system for my captain into CC,

I've lost all the vet statuses on the troops, and removed gravguns etc, troops are the for anti horde and infantry duties, and are supported by to ravens for anti armour/flyer support so I hope they'll be fine, plus the grav cannon centurions should be able to immobilse and wreck a vehicle per turn should there be a need

what do you think?
