If I am using the Skies of Fury SA from the Stormraven, does that benefit from a locator beacon, as it is done as a deep strike?

If it says the models arrive via deep strike then yes.

If it says they arrive and scatter using the deep strike rules then id say no.

So if a unit arrives "as if it were deep striking onto that point", you'd say no benefit?

If it was deep striking, then the LB would help. So since we're are doing it "as if it was" don't we then play through the entire process... including using the beacon?

I thought it required them to arrive from deepstrike?

Was discussing this over in tactics recently, the consensus was (and HIWPI) that they work, but not the turn the SR arrives, and you would have to land within 6" of where the SR finishes its move, rather than anywhere along its movement.

acctually arriving as if deep striking is the same as deep striking.

Whereas arriving "in the same manner as deep striking" is different.

Thats why i wanted to know the exact phrasing.

If it says "as if it were deep striking onto that point" then the beacon should affect it, assuming the unit landed at least 6" from the beacon.

Hiwpi

If the beacon is from something else (not from the stormraven from which the embarked is using Skies of fury) then it applies.

Since you measure from the hull, could you even land a unit within 6"?

Yes, but it would have to be damn near directly below one of the wings.

The wings are less than 6" from the ground? I didn't think they were.

I thought so, let me measure real quick and I will confirm or deny my statement.

strictly speaking if the first model is placed within 6" of the stormraven(skies of fury, like all disembarkation after movement has started does not happen until the vehicle has finished moving); then it benefits from locator beacon

The front of the SR is about 4.5 inches off the ground, the wings are about 5.5 inches off the ground and the tail is 5.8 inches off the ground.

So theoretically it is possible, just not probable to be within 6 inches of the Hull.

I thought ranges to/from fliers were measured from the base (ie charging one while it's hovering and such). Not sure where I got that from though.

And yes, I'm trying to figure out whether locator beacons would work on Skies of Fury and if it better to buy one for the Raven or a couple on Drop Pods.

Flyer bases are very specifically ignored for everything(when in hover mode it is not a flyer, but a skimmer so the base starts mattering again)

Not everything, just for measuring.

Meaning you can not move a model so that it ends its move on a flyers base, Etc.

Ver specifically ignored for everything except for the two bullet points - one is measuring for disembarking, where the base can be used

Disembarking is not arriving from deepstrike.

Yes it is the act of disembarking through the Skies rule, but the locator beacon measurement has nothing to do with disembarking.
