Couple of quick questions - what models do you think are cool? Are you more of a vehicle person (ghost arks) or prefer a silver tide?

Scarabs and spyders? Do you have lords/crypteks available?

Wow, so many questions - heres a couple of themes that I often use:

1) Footcrons - built around a blob of 20 warriors, with a couple of ghost arks in support with more warriors inside. Generally there is a few points left over for a couple of good harassment units. Either Stalkers for the TL benefit - for a more shooty list. Scarabs and spyders are a personal favourite of mine - makes for a more CC oriented game.

2) Teleporters .. So here, the focus is on teleporting units (the risk of mishap often balances the cheese!). Deathmarks are always good, with veilteks. Alternatively, a couple of mini CourtStars - say a Veiltek, DespairTek and a couple of stormteks. Take two units of those, then have Obyron with a unit of 10 Telsa immortals.

3) Mix - This is one of my favourites - just mix in whatever units you like with a limit of one of each unit (other than troops). You can get great lists out of these, most of them capable of surprising the opponent if played well.

For sheer power, @westenfux has given you the wraithwing version. I don't particularly find it fun to play, but no question it is a strong list.

You did read the part where the OP specifically said he didn't want to run any cheese or flyers, right? Or was this supposed to be a joke?

Anyway, here's a list I made to try to have fun without any cheese or flyers:

Necron Overlord: resurrection orb. 120

• 5 Crypteks: 5× Harbinger of Destruction. 175

Necron Overlord: resurrection orb. 120

• 5 Crypteks: 5× Harbinger of Destruction. 175

Triarch Stalker: Heat Ray 150

16 Necron Warriors 208

• Ghost Ark 115

15 Necron Warriors 195

• Ghost Ark 115

8 Necron Immortals: tesla carbines. 136

Necron Monolith 200

Necron Monolith 200

Annihilation Barge 90

1,999 points

Crypteks go in the ghost arks. The fun part of the list is using the monoliths to bounce around the blocks of warriors, unexpectedly capping objectives, popping up in rapid fire range, and kiting assault units.

The key to strategy is not to choose a path to victory, but to choose so that all paths lead to a victory.

War is beautiful because it establishes man’s dominion over the subjugated machinery by means of gas masks, terrifying megaphones, flame throwers, and small tanks. War is beautiful because it initiates the dreamt-of metalization of the human body. War is beautiful because it enriches a flowering meadow with the fiery orchids of machine guns. War is beautiful because it combines the gunfire, the cannonades, the cease-fire, the scents, and the stench of putrefaction into a symphony.

As an alternative, here's a base list I often use:

Zandrekh
RC : Veiltek

Overlord (MSS, WS, SW)
RC: Veiltek

5x Deathmarks (Overlord, Veiltek)

15 Warriors (Zandrekh)
5 Warriors, Ghost Ark
10 Tesla immortals (Veiltek)

6 Scarabs

3 Spyders
2 AB
(1495)

As I normally play 1750 or so, this leaves plenty of space for other units, such as a pair of stalkers, another set of deathmarks (in Scythe), a Lychguard bomb, Heavy destroyers etc. To get points, I normally drop troops as required (sometimes I only end up with min troops!).

Sorry for this.
Warriors with some Crypteks in Ghost Arks, ABs, Spiders and Scarabs would be a way to go. Not sure about the HQ.

I think the best Necron models are wraiths. They are also an effective unit.

Next fave model is the Triarch stalker. Like a Dreadnought with no CC weapons, but if you can find a way to utilise the target relay thing a lot of folk like it. Quite a lot run two to get the benefits to last.

My next fave models are the scythes. Which are really cool looking and lots of fun to play. If you include the FW stuff the Shroud bomber is even cooler looking. Haven't seen one on a list yet, but a lot of tournaments still don't allow FW, so... Might rule out the Acanthrites too? They are lovely models but expensive.

Destroyer Lords are very open to adaptation. Vargard O'Byron is my fave if the names HQs to look at. Playing him is tricky to get the best out if him (he has to be in challenges / on his own to get the most from his cleaving counter blow and synergy with Nemessor Zahndrak is tr only way to optimise Ghostwalk Mantle.

Deathmarks are cool if you can find the right tactics for them (squads of ten or linked with Despairteks are popular choices, could also work with gauntlet of flame lord maybe?). Opportunities for cool paint jobs on them too.
