First a tiny bit on me. I have changed armies more than my underwear (joking). I have been trying to find that perfect army and have gone through Orgres, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Wood Elves, and WoC. I still have some Lizards and DE including the new DE book and magic cards. I did really like the new Witch models but dislike the fact that it will cost me 120 for a unit. I decided on not playing DE because I really disliked the new monsters. I really dislike the new executioners, Hydra, Kharyibdus (wrong spelling I know). I like fast armies but those models for DE and the push to use them if you want to do well irritate me (Huge fan of BG but again they are meh with the new book). Most importantly I feel there is more fun to be had elsewhere.
With that said here are my goals for playing fantasy and a new army. I want to go to some major events. I wanted to this year but took a new job and couldn't get the time off. There are not a ton of places close to me to play and I really want to go to some big events and meet people and play lots of pick up games. Tournaments are a bit off as I collect more than I play atm. I am looking for the social aspect from these events and therefore just want a good army with a chance. My immediate thoughts on a few armies I think might get me to my goals with some pros and cons. I would like some incite and hopefully some nudges with advice your experiences etc. to sway, or motivate me (please and thank you).
Orcs and Goblins
I want to have fun and these guys look like a lot of it. I love the arachnarok spider, squigs, and mangler squigs. This army looks like a good all around army with lots of choices but there is a huge drawback, model count. I am known for lack of motivation and stuff sitting there. I like gobbos as well but a large horde army scares me because I want to meet a goal and this would be tough.
Brettonians
I have always wanted to try them because I love knights. I am a history teacher and love the medieval period. I really like the speed and look of the knights and Pegasus knights. I dislike the damsel (want a better mage model) and men at arms. I wish they would make knights on foot how cool would that be. What worries me is that they may lack the punch to deal with a lot of armies (Cavalry isn't what it used to be argument).
[Sorry for the large post, I just wanted to give some background information about myself and my situation to help you help me (hopefully). Lastly, any large warhammer events in the U.S besides Gamesday that are a lot of fun with a good group of people that you guys know about please share.
