Let me preface this by saying that all of my local gaming clubs allow forgeworld rules and models. That being said...

I'm one of the relatively few people it seems that actually really likes the new plastic Razorshark/Sunshark model and really dislikes the Forgeworld Barracuda model. That being said, is it generally considered ok to convert a GW model into something that uses forgeworld rules? I have an unassembled Razorshark, and I dislike the rules for both the Razor and Sunshark, so I've been toying with the idea of changing it into a Barracuda. I've got all the parts I need to do so (extra ion cannon, etc) so it would be fully WYSIWYG. I just wanted to know if this practice is generally acceptable or if there's an unwritten rule that forgeworld rules MUST be used with forgeworld models.

Second, what are the firing arcs of the guns on a Barracuda. The guns on the codex tau fliers have a very open arc of fire whereas the barracuda seems much more fixed. I don't want to be accused of modelling for advantage or anything like that if I mount the ion cannon in a way that gives it a wider firing arc than standard.

Any comments/advice would be great.

seems fine to me. Go for it.... look at any number of pictures online for firing arcs.

Ask your local store if its ok for you to proxy a 50$ model for a 80$ model

The ion cannon is hull mounted and cant swivel

the burst cannons are mounted the same way as a devil fish.

Missiles are on the wings and are hull mounted.

as the two models are basically opposite triangles it would be modeling for something. whether advantageous or not.

I've been doing it for a couple of games, just by using the quad ion gun and adding burst cannons to the wings, as we are to lazy to bother with weapon arcs so I just pay 15 points extra and using the weapons' real LOS. It's been working quite fine but I don't realy suggest that you use it outside of your usual gaming group and in casual gaming.
