i've been to my gaming club 3 times. 1st was just to see how it was and it was ok people seemed alright and people were playing games. 2nd was to pick something up id ordered and enjoyed a game they all seemed very friendly.. 3rd was very strange i arrived about 10 minutes early got a muted hello and proceded to have a very akward game with a decent guy but a hardcore 40k buff. There all hardcore players and im just a begginer so have barely enough for 1000 points The majority of them were not even playing games. Was spoken to by the maitre dee and left. Is this the kind of club where i need to gradually ease myself in and get to know people a couple weeks at a time or are they just spankers? I have been told they are a cliquee lot in there but i thought they were alright until tonight. Anyone wanna share similar experiences because it pissed me off quite a bit.

Well that kind of sucks that you didn't have the best experience.
I'm actually super lucky the FLGS owner in my town is awesome and helps alot with new players.
There are always people who are super serious about it and don't like new players because they are just learning and slow down the game...but who cares, how else are they supposed to learn.
Just ask the owner or one of the workers and see if they know any newer players who come into the shop and maybe you can contact them.
If you can get a little group of newer players in the same shop that will help a lot.
I think going in the store regularly and buying some paints or just going in looking around and you will see how much they play etc.
Just be super friendly and don't let anyone who is acting mean bug you and you will be fine (easy for me to say because I'm Canadian I can't be unfriendly with random people not in my nature haha that's a big stereo type tho lol)

When all else fails, keep an open mind about other folks mental hangups. Odds are its not you, its them. That is, assuming you are not typical gamer-scum, (ie. You bathe daily.)

I wouldn't write the whole club off on the basis of one game/night, especially if its convenient for you to go there location- and timing-wise.
It could be that you're new, it can take a while for people to warm to a new face (and assess them for TFG tendencies, not that I'm accusing you of anything of the sort). If you keep turning up, they'll likely get more comfortable around you and things will ease up.
If there's no sign of improvement after a month or two and several games, they may indeed just be spankers. Give it time though, wargamers can sometimes be shy.

We had a similar report from one of our new members a while back.
There was a small turnout that day, and everyone there piled into a 2v2v2 game, meaning we were all around the 1 table.
After a while, the new member turned up. He was watching the game, but as we were all tied up with that, he was getting left out.
A couple of us had a bit of time between turns, and chatted to him when we could, but he left early, a bit grumpy that he didn't get anything done.
After a chat with us all on the forum that week, he came back to an arranged game, got in some chat and natter, and left happy.
So, it happens, and if everyone there is busy at the time you arrive, it can be difficult to have a good time that session.
If there is a board or forum for the club, get yourself known there, and try to get games arranged before your next visit.

Disclaimer: You shouldn't let one bad visit of three put you off. If you go a dozen times, and more often than not you're not having a good time, this isn't the club for you.
That said: The gaming club model I don't find to be a very good one. It usually boils down to a group or groups of friends that form cliques, and anyone not in the clique is afforded semi-second class citizen status.
I have yet to see a gaming club model that doesn't, ultimately, boil down to this - even the successful ones - in the area.
That said, i met one of my best friends at a local gaming club, so there's that.
I'd give it more time before you make a decision.
