If I'm facing a Space Marines army with no flyers, should I keep using my 2 hammerheads with railguns? Or 1 hammerhead and 1 skyray?

Skyrays are great, even with no flyers. Against marines I use all the missiles turn 1 against things like devastators. If you don't move you can use 3 marker lights to shoot all the missiles at bs5 with ignore cover. After you have blown your load just use your skyray as moveable cover, sms and additional markerlights.

Hmm I didn't think about using it against a devastator squad, that would actually help a ton since they are the ones who always destroy my broadsides! Good idea. I think I'll try out 1 hammerhead 1 skyray next game I play! Thanks.

Tau is all about the alpha strike. You need to identify your biggest threat and destroy it. Typically in marine lists if you can deal with their thunder fire cannons and devastators they just can't kill anything on your side.

Have to realize that its still 6 table-range S8 AP3 shots, and afterwords a good SMS platform (probably the ONLY unit able to utilize the out of sight benefit). Those missiles can either be used to gimp a unit of devastators (use the markerlights to strip cover then fire all at BS4, or get another unit to mark it for you and fire at BS5 + ignore cover) and really piss him off. Or they can table-range gimp a dakkadread sitting in the back. If the skyray had Skyfire as a rule and not Velocity Tracker, it wouldnt be anywhere near as powerful. Actually it probably woudnt even be used lol.
