I have an Android phone, and I use it for running the ebook codices I get from Black Library, and to run Battlescribe.
But, I will be upgrading my phone soon, and wanted to know if anyone has a Windows 8 phone, and what apps they can get to work for wargaming use.
I know Apple phones and tablets can get the full-on codex versions, and can run Quartermaster.
And that Android phones have a range of list builders and apps.
But, what about other types?
Thanks for any info you might have.

I have a windows phone and have had 0 luck finding an army builder app of any kind. I usually end up using online builders like easyarmy because I don't have any other options

Just to give you a bit of insight from someone with over a decade of experience in mobile phone sales.
Discount Windows as an option for now, unless you have a work supplied phone and have no say.
I'm not prepared to write it off entirely, as Microsoft have the resources to do pretty much anything they want, but the only real advantage just now is that a Windows phone will be cheaper than an equivalent spec Android phone as often as not, purely because if they were a comparable price, they'd be an almost impossible sell.
All things considered, Android is the way forward, as they offer everything at a broad spectrum of prices.
Apple are really, really nice to use, and normally benefit as the first port of call for new accessories, apps etc, but the price is always a drawback, as is the warranty (US manufacturers, at least up until I left the industry last year, only offer 12 months warranty, which is useless when most agreements these days are 24, coupled with that, Apple have a swap out scheme that requires a deposit to be paid, or you wait several weeks for an exchange, because of the unusual SIMs, finding a cheap phone or getting one lent to you by the retailer, then becomes a bit more difficult)
If, however, your usage needs a talk plan that means that the iPhone is a sensible price, it is a worth contender.

I jumped ship from the Windows O/S a couple of months ago. Their app selection is just not on par with the Apple/Android markets. Out of those two types of phones though, Androids are better for their hardware imo. Just superior equipment all around. I use the HTC One and I swear it feels like alien technology in your hands. It's a shame because I really liked the metro interface, it's leagues above my current Android O/S's UI. If I could, I'd go back to that platform but there would need to be a massive increase in apps for me to do that.

The hardware is only part of the story. iOS is more efficient in the way it deploys resources (an upside to how tightly Apple controls everything) so while the specs on the top end Androids are dramatic, it doesn't necessarily equate to a proportional increase in performance.
Ditto with cameras, a well tuned 8, or even 5mp, unit will outperform a poor 13mp one.
You also have to remember that an iPhone is an iPod too, and I've yet to find any other smartphone that comes close to working as well as a personal music player, not to mention the massive variety of speaker docks, stereos, car head units etc all designed to work with them.
My personal choice at the moment is the Sony Z1, I'll be upgrading as soon as the prices drop or I can bully my network into giving me a decent deal.

I have a windows 8 phone.
There are NO army building apps for it. I hold no hope that there will ever be one.
I didn't get my phone because of the apps.
Mine came bundled with most of the apps I needed, and I got the rest as I found them. I don't need a remote army builder app. The GPS and other apps I do have get used. An army builder wouldn't. Besides, I find the actual work involved in putting the list together (including the arithmetic) to be calming.
I worked for Apple (in distribution). THAT experience soured me on them forever.

Well, android it is then.
If Apple is lock-in and costly, and Windows is devoid of apps, I'll stick with Battlescribe and web-based list builders.
