Somehow, the correct way to construct and run a winning Imperial Guard army eludes me. Single Drop Pods ruin my entire day.

If you want a good tarpit you can get a blob squad and ally in azrael for a fearless 4++ bullet soaker

Penal Legion isn't very good.

You don't need Creed at 1500 points. Use a regular CCS with your choice of weapons instead. Drop the Penal Legion, Marbo and the Storm Troopers. Put Veterans inside your Vendettas with the extra points

Creed only comes into his own in larger games where you can outflank a unit of 3 hellhounds, 3 russes, or a warlord titan In smaller games, you're better off using the points you spent on him to buy weapon upgrades.

Storm troopers are too expensive for what they do. Drop them for Veterans with meltas or plasma and drop them wherever.

Penal Legion troops are pretty much gak. Expensive and very unreliable. Lose them in favor of more vets.

Also, don't use your Platoon as bubble wrap for your manticores. Give the manticores cover since they can indirect fire. They don't have to see their targets. Blob up your infantry and give them a commissar to keep them together. Maybe snag an Aegis Defense Line if you can for a nice 4+ cover save. Use your Platoon to hold the home objective, maybe drop their flamers as well for grenade launchers and load up your PCS and CSS with plasma guns to handle any deepstriking troops.

Marbo isn't really needed, but I still encourage his inclusion in the army. I mean....He's fething Marbo.
