I thought about doing this when it first came up in Off Topic but wanted to wait till Novermber actually started to post it. As some of us know it is November and every year in November the writers of the world bunker down and write. The goal? 50,000 words in 1 month! The official website can be found here.

For this thread I thought those who choose to participate could post about their progress, bounce ideas back and forth (brainstorming sometimes works best with more than 1 head!), and share their work if they so choose to do.

Myself, I'm gonna have to set Pokemon Y down for a bit to get started on this. Already suffering pokewithdrawl. I started some outline work back in October but am still kind of tweaking it. Maybe a little too much. See how far I've gotten by bed time.

Welp managed to get somewhere on my end. I close the day with 2100 words.

I originally had a decent idea for this, even with the short notice I got after promptly forgetting about my promise to myself last year that I'd do it.

My brain recently decided to throw that idea out, after weeks of thinking it over and perfecting it.

I currently don't have a usable idea, and my brain seems content with keeping it that way.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Yeah. I have like two spiral notebooks filled with ideas for characters/stories that I just never used. Every now and then one of them gets used but not that often XD

Just start writing anything, just for the word count, think of a cool image and describe it then add a character. I was walking in the pouring rain, listening to a podcast about WW1, has given me plenty to start from. I think it's best to attack Nano with a cold pursuit of word count, you might start with garbage but there might be some gold in there.

I always think that if you over-develop an idea without putting pen to keyboard you'll never write it.

I can attest to this. There's thinking something out before you write to get a grasp for it, then there's thinking it to death. You become 'content' with the story having never written it down and lose the motivation to do so.

Imagine someone batting your hands away from the keyboard every time you try and type whilst simultaneously shouting "stop it" in your ear, and you'll be close to my mental state right now.

It's not a case of perfectionism, it's a case of 'I want to write, but my own mind won't let me'.

I can write without prior planning - hell, that's how I write most of my stuff - but right now, I can't put pen to paper, planning or no planning.

Meh. I didn't get far today myself. Only 1200 (3300 total). Gonna have to make that up tomorrow now. Normally I use my TV as background noise which helps me think but damn you Comcast your service sucks. Been out all day and its throwing my groove off.

EDIT: Managed to make up time today and then some. Current total is at 6500 words

A friend apparently decided to do a picture book (picutres = 1000 words XD).

My progress remains steady. About 2k a day. So far so good.
