Hello I'm plan on starting a new Imperial Guard army, mainly alot of infantry with maybe some small heavy support. Anyway I got the codex (since I really want to learn and plan out my list instead of buying stuff I don't need, like I did with my Space Wolves) and I see that Officer's can relay orders within a certain radius, I understand that. However I get confused as to what the difference is between a Company Command Squad, Platoon Command Squad, and just deciding to use Commissar as an HQ. I have read I believe some where on here and on 40k forums that CCP are generally the better hq choice? I would really like to use a commissar as my hq but not too sure what is good points wise. I plan on doing a 1500 pt list, this is a step up from my 750pt Space Wolves army.
Mind if I get any example lists so I can see what generally consists of a infantry heavy IG list? Also one last question Storm Troopers and Karskins look cool as hell, are they worth throwing into an army?

Tbh mate storm troopers/kaskrin aren't worth it in this codex as they are too expensive for what they do. It depends on what kind of list you are after. If you want a mechanized list then veterans in chimeras and vendettas is the way forward tooled up with plasma guns and meltas. If you want infantry blobs then basic infantry platoons with auto cannons is the way to go. The Lord commissar is only useful for sticking in a bunched up infantry platoon of 20+ guys because of his buffs like stubborn etc. generally speaking a ccs is better as you can give them 4 special weapons and they have bs4 so you can load up on meltas and go tank hunting or plasma and go marine killing. A platoon command squad is a part of your basic infantry platoon and is a required squad for every infantry platoon you take. You must have atleast 1 pcs and 2 infantry squads per infantry platoon and they make up 1 troops choice. It's like a mini company command squad which leads the infantry platoon which can also load up on specials so 4 Flamers for you pcs is the way to go. Anything else I've missed shout at me haha.

Ah ok. So what I'm understanding is say I have 2x 10 man infantry units, I need to have the platoon command squad? Ok then that would make sense. I was planning on having a huge infantry blob. That's why I was thinking of using a commissar. And that sucks bout karskin/storm troopers being pricey. I really like the look of them. I was also considering snipers but ratlings seem to be better at that?

Yeh and you can add other things to your infantry platoons like heavy weapon squads and special weapon squads, and I believe it's something like 5 infantry squads max so you could have a 50 man blob led by a commissar, now that would be bitching haha, all sergeants with power axes and Flamers all round. As for snipers, it's not really something that good guard lists need as they have an abundance of units which have access to special and heavy weapons and really you want either plasma or melta over snipers as they are much better.

Is it 50 troops per platoon? So with the 6 troop choices I could have 300 guards men on the table? That is nuts to think! So I can do a commissar and ccs as my hqs then? Is having 2 hqs ok at 1500pts

You can have many more than 50 guys in one platoon once you factor in heavy and special weapon teams and conscripts. According to my quick count you can get 147 in one platoon
And yes, you can have up to two HQs in one FOC

Yeah you could lol, well it is ok but you might want to use the points on something else. Guard lists that are competitive/do well nowadays either run vets in chimeras or have large blobs of infantry and spam auto cannons, pretty much every decent guard list has 2 vendettas, as 3 twin linked lascannons on an av12 flyer with troop capacity for 120pts is insane.

Ok well a typical mech 1000pt list is something like.
Ccs with 4 meltas.
Veteran squad with 3 plasmas and chimera.
Veteran squad with 3 plasmas and chimera
Veteran squad with 3 plasmas and chimera
Veteran squad with 3 meltas.
Vendetta gunship
Vendetta gunship
Ccs and melta vets load up in vendettas.
This is only 960pts so you have 540 pts to play with.

Hahaha excited much? Yes manticores are good, really good in games at your local gaming store or against friends but in competitive games they are risky as opponents close the gap into their minimum distance quickly, 24 inches I believe?

Manticores are incredibly good against xenos and tanks. Anything other with a 3+ save though, not so much.
On a side note, there's no literal minimum distance for firing. You can shoot units closer than 24 inches, but you follow the rules for indirect firing.
