Rules-wise, I'd say it's between Imhotekh for the Night-fighting-with-lightning powers (no slouch in CC either) or Zandrek for the ability to grant/remove special rules. FC or CA on a 20-cron squad can be lethal, as can robbing enemy units of the same. A lot of units rely on these rules to maximise their potential, so the ability to strip them is pretty cool.

This.

Imotekh can really help due to night fighting and the ability to steal the initiative on a 4+ (unless you're fighting orks)

Zhandy is awesome. Being able to remove abilities is useful but granting them to friendly units is great. I like being able to give a unit of warriors Tank Hunter and then teleport them next to a tank using Obyron (who can be taken as a body guard without a FOC slot with Zhandy). Glancing a vehicle to death is very risky but doign it with tank hunter becomes very viable.

A 3rd choice for me would be Trayzen since he's a scoring.

I'd also go for the Zand, in addition to the above the ability to bring in all your reserves as soon as your opponent brings in his first is great. And team him up with Obyron and a Lith to jump right into your opponents face nice an quickly

Imhotek is probably the best. He's not terribly expensive, he can hit every single model on the table with lightning of doom and gives you night fighting AND is half decent in combat.

In my opinion, he's one of the best SCs in the game. However, he is a piece of lazy game design; roll to hit everything on the table whether or not he's dead, in reserve or whatnot is a paradigm of ward-hate, much like the also-lazy Warp Storm for daemons.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

I don't think it's particularly broken at all. The storm he brings about isn't fully under his control. That's why his ballistic skill and firing position are irrelevant. Clearly, from the random nature of his stormbringing equipment, he isn't fully in control of that business. So I think it's totally reasonable for the huge lightning storm to continue to rage on for a few more minutes after his death. Since even a storm that was localized to only be board-wide would be HUGE, it doesn't seem too unreasonable for it to still be affecting people even though Imotekh is a few feet off the edge of the board. Now, it has the potential to be a damn POWERFUL ability, I'll give you that.

Personally, I like all the Necron characters. I think they all have their place. Orikan is a little hard to work out, and kind of needs a specialized list, but all of them benefit most from a list designed to synergize with their abilities. If I had t pick a personal fave, I'd go with Trazyn, since I like 'unkillable' HQs.
