Hi all,

Currently about to start the 5th round of a progression league and up until now I've been quite successful. Placing 1st one and 2nd twice (had to miss one round due to my 2nd son being born!)

However im in a quandary as to what to field this time and have narrowed it down to two lists. Local meta isn't flyer heavy so no need for AGL or multiple vendettas. Im facing foot guard, nids, space puppies, orks, eldar, dark eldar and tau.

Dark eldar have been the only army to hand my behind to me on a plate the rest have struggled to even dent me before I pie plated them off the table. However this round theres likely to be more toys for them to pop my tanks with.

So first list is carrying on with the vet spam I've done up until now.

HQ
CCS x4 plasma, Chimera with ML&flamer 165pts

Elite
Marbo

Troops
Vets x3 melta, Chimera with ML&flamer 155 pts
Vets x3 melta, Chimera with ML&flamer 155pts
Vets x3 plasma, Chimera with ML&flamer 170pts
Vets x3 plasma, Chimera with ML&flamer 170pts

Fast
Vendetta

Heavy
Leman Russ Demolisher x2 330 (may run as seperate units)
Manticore
1500 on the nose

2nd list similar but has long range weapons and a little more anti horde with some outflanking rear armour popping.

HQ
CCS x4 Plasma, Chimera ML&flamer 165

Elite
Marbo

Troops
Platoon 415 pts
Squad with AC/GL, Chimera ML&Flamer
Squad with AC/GL, Chimera ML&Flamer
Squad with AC/GL, Chimera ML&Flamer
PCS x4 Flamer, Meltabomb.

Vets x3 melta, Chimera ML&Flamer 155

Fast
Vendetta
X2 Scout Sentinels with AC 80pts

Heavy
2x Leman Russ demoliahers 330pts (again may field these separately)
Manticore

1500 on the nose again. Single units I've left points costs off to save any rule breaking!

Both lists I feel could work well. Vet spam is vet spam. 2nd list has more options in outflanking to pop rear armour with the sents and parking squads on objectives. The PCS will ride in the vendetta and drop near an objective late game. MB is there incase a walker or tank is near.

What are the thoughts of the fellow guard players here?

P.S

Sorry for any dodgy formatting as im sending this from my phone!

In my opinion the first list is a lot better. Every unit is mobile and can put down some serious firepower. Only thing I'm a bit skeptical to is the flamers on the Chimeras. I feel I get to fire heavy bolters more often than I would flamers, but maybe flamers fit your play style better.

Transforming veterans to a small mechanized platoon will in my opinion just hand the initiative over to the opponent as these mechanized PiS are not nearly as threatening as a triple special weapon veteran squad.

If you want some variety the sentinels are not horrible, but I think you would do better just scrapping one veteran squad and trying to make do with just three scoring units. But even then I think the first list is stronger.

Hi thanks for the feedback. I tend to go Flamers as they just devastate any hordes that get near me and negate any cover saves. Where as the HB's can take three things at most. Long range i feel is covered by the ML's.

I think i do prefer the first list myself. I was going with the Sents to try and discourage people from sitting things in their backfield then use the Manticore or russes to splat anything tasty inside. May play around with less scoring units, however, i may fall fowl of objective games.

Thanks again.
