Hi folks,

First of all, excuse my "bad" (it isn't terrible, but isn't good either) english skills. Even though my girlfriend is english, I sometimes use german syntax forms.

I've started to collect Warhammer miniatures back in 2003 but never played with them. I bought a couple of Necrons and some Sisters of Battle, painted 2-3 miniatures and then stoped.

Now a friend of mine and I decided to give Warhammer a shot. After reading some of the Grey Knight lore (I disliked space marines earlier) I decided to put the Necrons on hold and sell the Sororitas to get some Grey Knights.

I've got a few good offers and now I have this units.

So the question would be, which of these units are a waste (like the 5 assassins?).

And what units are missing for a good army. I don't want to max out or spam some units, this is just for fun between friends. He's playing tau.

The other question would be, if Inq Rex is any good. I really like the lore and the miniature, but he's much pricier than Coteaz in terms of points (and money).

Are there some minis missing which I should get definitly?

List of Units:

1x Inquisitor with Henchman (Skull, Cherubim, Acolyt, Priest, Meleeservitor, Servitor with Multimelta, 2 Warrioracolytes)
1x Inquisitor

6x Assassins (Calidus, Eversor, 2x Vindicare, 2x Death Cult(?))

25x Grey Knights Marines
19x Terminator

2x Nemesis Dreadknight
2x Cybot (FW) with twinlinked autocannon

1x Stormraven
1x Land Raider Crusader
2x Razorback
1x Chimera

First try for a 1000 point "learn the game" army:

Inquisitor Coteaz

10 Grey Knights

5 Terminators

5 Grey Knights

Henchman
8 Warrior-Acolyths

Cybot
- twinlinked autocannon
- twinlinked autocannon

Cybot
- twinlinked autocannon
- twinlinked autocannon

Recommendations?

Welcome, I will try to help you as much as I can. Though I don't play GK myself, I do play against them often so I think I can offer some input.

To answer your 1st question: You only need one assassin: The Vindicare.

2nd: I don't feel that you need any more models than what you have listed.

3rd: Coteaz is the best Inquisitor. If you want to use a Rex model, run him as a Terminator character.. I just don't like his rules, so I am probably not looking at the whole picture here.. Someone else might have to help you on this one.

As far as your 1000pt list goes, I'd say that Dreadnoughts need Psybolt ammunition. This applies to any list at any points.

I didn't knew how much I could post. So equipment is okay, but not the point costs?

Everyone has psybolt ammo and the Grey Knights Squads have psibolters.

The Termis have two demonhammers and two halberds. Is the Justicar Upgrade for free?
Or is this a bug in the tool I use.

Also I do have 25 Marines and 14 Termis builded already and 5 of each in a new box. Should I build them also as Termis/Marines or use them as Paladin/Purifier?

Last thing. I have two Dreadnought, a Dreadknight and a Land Raider Crusader. Too much for Support. Should I upgrade one of the Dreadnought to a venerable Dreadnought to play them both? Or don't use the Land Raider.
(It's kinda confusing in english with Dreadknight and nought, I think its easier in german because there the Dreadnoughts are just called Cybot).

Hi

As an actual GK player here are some tips :
- As mentionned, the only assassin that can be worthwile is the vindicare, he has great AT power, however is so fragile (and now, with cover and HP is not as good as he was). I would not take any of them.
- Do not ever upgrade a dreadknought to venerable, it is far too expensive for what it brings, just depending on the game and your list, you can skip one of your support, anyway at 1000pts, the 3 will be likley too expensive.
- psyamo is great on Dreadnoughts and full size Grey Knights, dont take it on 5 men squad.

For instance for your 1000pt army you could take
Coteaz
10GKSS with 2 psycanon and psyamo
10GKSS with 2 psycanon and psyamo with razorback and psyamo
one Dread with 2 autocanon and psyamo
One DK (knight) with teleporter and incinerator

Or you can take off the DK, add another Dread instead, take off the razorback and add the vindicare to try it.

So the Razorback isn't for transporting but for shooting or?

I will have to proxy the first game, because I just have 15 GKSS and 8 Termis till next week.

Also what weaponary? 2 psycannons and 1x daemonhammer rest halberds or just swords?

Can you tell me something about Inq. Rex? Maybe I will use him with the Coteaz rules because I like the model. But he don't look that bad. Just a bit pricier.

I also have just started playing Grey Knights and have been sold on Coteaz as the main HQ. For 100 points you get a level two psyker with Divination powers and can bring cheap troops, and for that he can not be beaten. I would use the his acolytes as troops and use your other models (Grey Knights SS and Terminators) as either purifiers or paladins.

In regards to Inquisitor Rex he is pretty powerful according to his stat sheet, lvl 2 psyker and can take the same powers as Coteaz (according to an email for Forge World) but has better WS and attacks than Coteaz, and is a scoring unit. But he does not allow you to use acolytes as troops and is 75 points more expensive. I would not use him in low level games only in 1500 or higher point games as Coteaz just allows you to have more boots on the ground and with how expensive GKs are we need.

Just my two cents.
