I am working om a Nurlge themed city board and for the area terrain I wan tto create fields of impaled bodies. I am leaning towards using wooden skewers for the stakes, and I will place them on large rounded bases.. I just need to find the best way to get a body on the stakes. Any ideas on what miniature line to use? They just need to be general imperial citizens. I was thinking on using some sort of zombie since that will capture the decayed aspects.

As far as the actual impaling. I was thinking on not actually drilling through the miniature, but just gluing the stakes to each side to mimic the appearance of impaling. Think that would work?

Thanks!

Skewers would be too skinny to look like it can support a body, also glueing it in 2 parts would make it difficult not to have a bent look, drilling would keep it straight. If you have no access to a drilling tool, make a small hole where he stick will be stuck to give it a bit more stregth.
I would use some spare sprues, carve itwith a blade to give it a more unnatural apperance then glue. It will stick better than wooden sticks aswell.

hope that helps - spelling errors are cause of the pjone- I have no excuse for poor grammer

I think Khorne would impale bodies, Nurgle would have them walking around. He promises everlasting life after all and wouldn't show dead bodies as trophies. But I am not an expert on Chaos, maybe someone else can confirm or deny that.

I agree on using spare sprue, its easy enough to make it look like metal, stone, wood. Also Take a look at the new Vampire Counts Corpse Cart. It has a few zombies impaled and plenty of bodies you can use that already look very brutal. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1050052

I'd use skewers personally. They may look small relative to heroic scale but would be quite thick in real life if true scale. Then again the skewers I have myself are thicker than power axe handles.

I've thought of doing exactly the same thing since I have a box of empire militia and a box of zombies I got for free from a friend who quit playing; just kit bash them. I've tried gluing one half to either side of something before and it really is hard to make it straight. I'd just drill straight through.

Get some thin nails, drill holes through the bodies and impale them on the nails. Nails can be hammered into the base from the bottom.
You don't have to paint the nails, just give them a wash and suitable gore dripping down them.
nails can be hammered in on angles to give a random look.

You could use toothpicks or thinner nails/pins to impale just heads and have a head forest.

I second the nails, but instead of drilling just heat them up with a blow torch and slide them through (just be aware of potential toxic smoke....)

Yes I am serious, I think this could work well. In fact I may even try it and see what happens.

I like the above idea of a head 'forest'.

If you are going to do that I'd suggest maybe piling bodies around the spikes as well as having victims impaled. You could say they are "Disease pits" or something. Festering remains put together with live victims to incubate and spread the plagues of Nurgle.
