I am thinking of starting Malifaux, because the models look great and the gameplay looked fun. I liked the look of the Freikorps crew, and I was wondering if you guys thought this was a good crew for a beginner. I have done some research, so I know some about the crew, but I don't know enough to decide.

Thanks in advance

They are a great beginner crew if only because they are "straight" up in playstyle and don't use strange-ish mechanics to get things done.

Their selection of Freikorps models are very deep with very few auto-takes, so you can mix and match as you want.

I've enjoyed playing them very much in M2e.

I am not sure about how they play in M2e, but, they were hard to go against in 1st malifaux (or, whatever we call it). They are strait up, and easy to use. However, their leader, Von Shill is totally Bad @$$.

Yep, a pretty strong starting choice. The only negative comment I've heard is that, if you're just using book 1 pieces and limiting yourself to friekorps theme, you're going to have trouble.

Thank you all for the responses. I think I will try to pick up the freikorps starter off of amazon.

Sure, and they're a fun one.

A few things of note:
they're eventually getting resculpts, depends how long you want to wait (that would be a few months)
Assuming you don't get the resculpts, you'll want to buy an outcast arsenal deck- this will have most of the crew's model rules.
The librarian and trapper are part of the open beta right now, which is downloadable from Wyrd's site.

Whenever the plastic crew is released that will probably be the only way to get a model for the Steam Trunk (Von Shill's totem), so if you get the crew now, you'll have to either proxy something or try to find a Steam Trunk someone is selling individually, which I don't think would happen too often.

Just happens that I ran into the same conundrum.

I just picked up a micro machine tank for like a dollar and am going to stick some gear on top of it...
