Hsving recently found out that my local GW will be running a Tale of Store Gamers for Fantasy I thought it might be a nice time to try the fantasy side of things that I havent done since whenever Bretonnians were in the core box. Since the last time I played around at WFB I was in my early teens I never converted anything and rarely painted so this is really my first toe dip into modelling properly for fantasy battles. I had some spare bits from the new DE Chariot kit that I had used in my Vyper conversion so I opted to mock up a Dreadlord to test the waters. He still needs some GS work and a bit of filing/cutting but here is what he looks like currently:

As this is done without reading the army/corebook for the system yet it is possible the equipment/mount might be wrong but as far as general modelling goes it would be nice to have some feedback. Mywife seems to prefer this to any of my 40K work (not sure if that is a good thing or not).

Looks great, will be interested to see it with some paint added. If you have any large areas for greenstuff you may want to consider adding a shield that could be used to cover said area and isn't a bad bit of kit for a DL anyway.

The pose looks epic too, just make sure he isn't a pain in the proverbial for ranking up purposes.

I also find my wife much prefers the Fantasy setting and models. Not sure why, maybe its a chick thing?

Cheers, will be picking up more primer this evening to get some painting done on this guy, I have some of the anchor emblem empire shields from forgeworld but that might serve better as a trophy than an actual DE shield.

The only part that over hangs the base is the sword which should be sufficiently high that it wouldnt impair ranking up on any side of him. As to the fantasy bits I think its a fondness for the more magicky aspects and fantastical creatures (hydra, dragon) appealing to her more than metal boxes).

I like it!

Decent pose and very dramatic, perfect for a druchii noble!

The only thing I will say is that imo a dreadlord would be better off riding a cold one if in a unit of cavalry but other than that his equipment should be fine once you had a shield.

Looking forward to seeing it painted!

Thanks guy, I've had a bit of progress painting, the shield will be painted seperately and then added on and a bit more detailing is still needed but here he is so far:

That looks great, he really has a sense of wicked strength and power. The new dark elf kits are awesome, I made the cold one chariot and might have a go at making something similar with my horsey bits, thanks for the idea!
