Hi, all.

I had a game with my friends at the weekend, and I came across something that I've never done before, being the Imperial Guard, I'm often in close combat, but it's usually Khorne Berserkers, or Striking Scorpions cutting up a Combined Squad of Guardsmen like a mad, drunk, high gardener trimming a flowerbed with a lawnmower.

However, at this weekend, I threw my Combined Squad at a Tau Devilfish APC, and assaulted it in close combat. Prior to the game I had purchased krak grenages for my guys with my points, and the plan was to clamp a grenade on it, shout, "'Ave it!," and hope for the best.

I was reading the rules, and while the rules say that only one model in a squad can thrown up to one type of grenade in the Shooting Phase, it doesn't say anything for the Assault Phase. I thought this was odd, so I took that to mean that in the Assault Phase, as long as you're assualting a Monsterous Creature and/or a Vehicle, then anyone of your models that's legally allowed to attack in the Sub Phase can use a grenade.

I'd like to know what the consenus is on that.

Either way, I laid six grenades on the Xenos vehicle, and wrecked it, this made me happy.

Of course, it is possible that I missed the section that says, "no, no you cannot do that."

An Armour Save? No, never heard of it. Me? I play Imperial Guard.

As Kel said, but they only get to make 1 attack each if I'm not mistaken.

You did it right as long as you paid points for all those models to have grenades.

There should be rules within the grenade section outlining how each individual grenade functions during assault under each grenade type. That should inform you how many attacks can be carried out by a unit using nothing but this type of grenade. I can tell you there are assault limitations on grenades, however it is something easily found within the BRB so forum rules prevent me from outright blurting the answer. I hate to do this but seeing I am not at the library I can not give you the exact page number so... refer to the index for the correct page.

I can however say that your action was completely legal and is another example of why it is not good to put your tanks into close combat range of infantry....

This pleases me.

Yup, I just counted each individual's model as attacking with a krak grenade, and not in addition to bayoneting and butt-swipping the Devilfish.

Yes, I purchased krak grenades for each squad in my Combined Squad.

Yes, that's the part I read through. The section covers assault and defensive grenades, and all of the stats for their use, be it: Fling it "Ave it!"-style, or in assault. I was just surprised that the rules allow every model in close combat to use a grenade as their attack. I would have thought they would limit the squad to: "only one model may attack," like they do in the Shooting Phase.

I'm glad I know this now. Means I can fling fifty Guardsmen at that frakkin' Ripide and give it a hella slap!

It does have restrictions to make it 'a tactical choice,' but when you look at those restrictions it is obvious the choice is between 'explode that tank' and 'what where you thinking, our weapons do nothing!'

Yes, 2, 3, or 23 attacks/model from S3 models do not matter while 1 S6+ attack/model can actually do something.

For Imperial Guard? Yes.
For Death Company or Berzerkers charging the AV10 backside of most non-walker vehicles out there...oodles on oodles of Furious-Charging S5 Attacks is a very scary prospect.

Just bear in mind that the grenades aren't *always* the better option.

I just want to say I love this analogy

As for your question it has been answered by the others.

This is why Vets with Demolitions are nice. Charge the Land Raider, Riptide, Trygon, or any other vehicle or MC and plant a bunch of Melta bombs on it.
