Greetings Dakkanauts! Last weekend I was bored at my
FLGS and was talking to a couple of my buddies there. The next day was our monthly 1500pt
40k tournament. As a joke we were talking about how funny it would be if someone just grabbed some stuff off the shelf and showed up the next day with a brand new army and ended up winning. Well as the night went on the idea stuck with me and I thought what the hell, I've got some extra cash and it could be fun! So here is the Purchase list, and then the 1500pt army I made for the tournament. (Keep in mind that while there were better choices I could have made for the list I literally just grabbed the random items we happened to have on the shelf.)

Fortification:
Firestorm Redoubt
The general strategy I used for this list was to have the melta heavy
tac squad drop in and take out the biggest threat first while the scouts sit on an objective in cover while chipping away at high value targets with snipers. The
devs were parked inside the Firestorm Redoubt providing fire support on heavy armor targets while my second
tac squad camped behind the fortification in their rhino waiting to jump out for the objective. The flyers acted as anti-flyer / anti-infantry while the commander / command squad ran around harassing targets I didn't want in close combat with my troops or shooting at me.
Game 1: Tyranids
This was a devastating game. He was running a flying hive tyrant with two tervigons, three zoanthropes in a pod, the doom, three hive guard, and two broods of gaunts with poison and adrenal glands.
I started off poorly on this game, dropping my squad in the pod down on a tervigon trying to take it out early which they failed miserably at. The rest of the game was spent with the tyrant flying around shooting at what it could, the real threat really was the mountains of gaunts pouring out of the tervigons until eventually I just got too bogged down to fight back and was tabled.
Game 2: (Buy) - We had an odd number of players and seeing as I was the lowest scoring player that round I was given the buy for round 2.
Game 3: Eldar
This game was my saving grace, everything just seemed to go right for me and wrong for the Eldar player. He was running two guardian squads with scatter lasers, one dire avenger squad with Eldrad, Two Wraithknights, and a Crimson Hunter.
The game started off with me dropping my
tac squad right by his dire avengers and taking out Eldrad the first round due to poor placement of the model. I was also able to put two wounds on each of the Wraithknights with my Scouts and Devastators. Second turn both of my flyers came in and I was able to almost completely wipe out both guardian squads with the missile launchers set to frag. I took out the rest of the Dire Avengers and put a wound on each of the Wraithknights, his crimson hunter came in on his second turn as well. Third turn I was able to shoot down the crimson hunter with my firestorm redoubt and get rid of one of the guardian squads and a wraithknight. Turn four saw three of my scouts die and flee from being in close combat with the wraithknight, next turn they regrouped and were able to take the knight down with sniper fire, while my fliers were able to take out the guardians resulting in a table for my opponent.
It was a really fun tournament and very interesting playing an army I built and thought up literally that night, I wound up taking third out of seven, with necrons taking second, and tyranids taking first with a huge lead.
I will be starting a P&M blog for these marines soon and it wont be long until the Storm Wardens get their revenge!
Automatically Appended Next Post: So where do you guys think I could take them from here? I like the general idea I have for them but what could I build on? Anybody who is familiar with the Storm Wardens lore that could have some suggestions on that as well?
