Wondering Why the Emperor Left

Pheonix, Arizona

Hey, so idk about anyone else but I love the orbital picts that Forgeworld has included in their Horus Heresy books, and was wondering exactly how they did it. I'm assuming they are photoshopped satellite images of cities in rl, but I myself know that copying and pasting sections of pics from Google doesn't quite have the same awe-inspiring effect and ends with some rough edges so would anybody with more PS experience have any tips, tricks, or tutorials?
