So a bit ago I made a post about an idea I had about using Land Raiders to block Line of Sight to Vindicators side armor, and I got some positive feedback affirming it as an interesting idea, but most of the posts were people arguing about if the list obeyed the force organization chart, which it does. This is a repost to sort of get back on topic.

The original thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/560641.page

Basically the idea is that Vindicators are very cheap for what they provide: STR 10 AP 2 large blast ordinance.

-ordinance gives a high chance to penn armor by rolling two and picking highest. Even AV14 vehicles should fear this.
-STR 10 gives a high wound chance and the ability to double out many MEQ HQs and multi-wound tarpits
-AP 2 cuts through all armor, making MEQs and TEQs just as easy to kill as people in T-shirts

Basically, sandwiching 3 vindicators between 2 land raiders with terminators inside each to make them dedicated transports and not heavy supports would keep the things firing, with daemonic possession, well into the game. I could see one of the vindicators even making it to turn 6.

What I really like about this is I can hide my Thousand Sons rhinos behind this wall of armor and get them into rapid fire range while also covering the vindies from the back against deepstrikers. Heres a sample list:

2000pts
Ahriman (Warlord)
9 Thousand Sons- Rhino (Ahriman goes here)
10 Thousand Sons- Rhino
3 Terminators of Tzeentch- Land Raider
3 Terminators of Tzeentch- Land Raider
20 Chaos Cultists
Vindicator- Daemonic Possession, Combi-Bolter
Vindicator- Daemonic Possession, Combi-Bolter
Vindicator- Daemonic Possession, Combi-Bolter

The cultists would GTG in some terrain until late game and stand on the backfield objective.

SO, what I'd like to hear from Dakka is

-how well you guys think this would fair against the current meta (MSU, fliers, FMCs)
-how good of a battle plan this is (I've never seen a list remotely close to this in a batrep or just as a list or anything, which is probably why people are questioning its legality)
-what changes would you make to it

Thanks!

I hunk you would struggle with anything airborne. I also think terrain may become your enemy, and split your armour up.

Also, isn't Ahriman in terminator armour?

I agree, I lack the # of shots to deal with air. This is certainly a problem that I'm hoping to just ignore because everything is in metal boxes.

Terrain is also a valid problem. I'm considering heldrakes.

Ahriman is not in terminator armor, hes in power armor

Ahriman is in power armor, I was surprised that he wouldn't be using terminator armor myself... But I agree, if they have anything airborne you'll be struggling a lot, you don't have anything to shoot at them besides the hope of a glancing hit from Tsons at the back side, or the best bet is a pen shot from your TL LC

Ignoring air is plausible as a tactic, depending on what the air is. Things like drakes will be able to melt the cultists, and hope for some vector strikes on your vindi's. Same with Chaos FMC's.

Some fliers like eldar crimson hunters would make light work or your armour if you can't shoot them down.

Also, ask yourself this, is Ahriaman most effective in a rhino? What powers are you hoping to have from him? LOS is important for psychic powers, I can't remember how many fire points a Rhine has and what the arcs are like? Perhaps he'll actually be fine in there...

I like the idea of three vindicators.
The 1K sons in the rhinos are a bit naff. Unless you are planning to set them up for shooting and use the rhinos to block LOS.
At 2000pts you are on the double FOC threshold and could consider taking a cheap second character to allow you to take landraiders to transport the 1K sons (or not).

Losing both rhinos would pay for a second character. You would have to split the cultists into two units - but if they are going to ground that's no real loss. But that would free up the terminators to deep strike in decent positions and overall you lose the rhino's which are easy first blood and gain a character.
