Subject: Zownt! A good onomatopoeia for eldar weapons?
Projectile is shot, rift is opened and sustains for several seconds, then collapses in a great blast.
At least, that's how I assume vortex weaponry operates from the skimming I did on the lexicanum article.

I kind of imagine something starting not dissimilar to Radio static and zeroing in on a frequency. Until it finally reaches the point of damaging, it kinda gets lower and more tonal until it suddenly ends and just rips something to bits.
Either that or.

When I read this thread, I imagine all of the posters sitting in a circle, making these sounds.
More on topic, I agree, I've always thought the of DoW 2 sound effects for Wraith weapons. The slow wind up, and then the BZZHTHTTT as you literally tear your enemies a new one.

I don't know why but I get the impression of a softer, less "80's or older sci-fi" sound - more of a fsht.bwump sort of a sound, where the bwump is heavily accentuated compared to the soft, almost a breeze-through-long-grass-on-a-summers-day of the fsht
I hope everyone else sat there making odd noises like I did...

Idd, DoW2 had great sound effects and voice acting. From the shivers down my spine every time I hear my Sorcerer speak, to the badass that is the Warlock. (Gief Warlock commander for Eldar in 40K please.) They did everything right, from the hiss of the lasguns to the thud of the bolters. I much prefer the thud to the Space Marine game's pow.
One doesn't encounter this kind of threads on a usual basis.
I can imagine people in a con, rolling their lips and tongues to make these sounds like there was a competition for beatboxing rejects. MAY I JOIN?
...But when comes to the wraithcannon sound, I've been spoiled by DoW II too. That has the one and true wraithcannon sound.

I might have to go check out DoW2 again! I honestly don't remember the sound from there.
For me it's like a low throb, not dis-similar to ONE OR TWO dubstep beats... not the whole bloody kaboodle, mind, that'd be horrible.
So kind of a "waaooow-wuuuooaaab"...
Lances for me are a much more high-pitched scream, like it's killing a thousand cats in its path. Sort of like Star Wars blasters, but longer and louder. "FWEEEEEEE!!"
(added)...this is a fun conversation, I've decided. Have an exalt for a good question.

I imagine all of the posters making the noises, thinking that they have satisfactorily come up with the right noise, and then stopping to wipe off their monitor screens before typing.
Thanks, Super Ready.
Keep 'em coming folks! I'm actually considering these noise for more Bob&Fred episodes on "Quitting DPs" (my sig below).
