New to DakkaDakka, so this is my first list posting here. I apologize in advanced for the read. Short summed up version at the at the end! Overall, there is 142 bodies in this list (not including armor).

A few flaws with the list but the one that bothers me the most.. I'm running Hydras! There is a decision between taking them out and putting in another Vandetta (Which I feel 2 is fine, 3 may be overkill..), putting in an Aegis Defense Line, OR, my personal favorite option, more bodies! That's 2 more Plasma/Melta Gun Infantry Squads!

Some questions that arrise (and they're color co-ordinate!):
'Doc! How do you manage to win kill points without commissars? Clearly you can't combine your Infantry Squads without them!'
'Doc! Your Company Command Squad is just.. In the open? All the time?'
'Doc! No Aegis defense line? What are you thinking?'

I don't like commissars in 6th edition. I LOVED them in 5th, but those rightfully over zealous men cause my blobs to get bogged down way to easily in 6th. Unfortunately, the power blobs of 5th no longer work since Sergeants and Commissars can be targeted/challenged/closest model killed in Close Combat. Too many things in this edition bog down said squads and never let them go. Plus, that would severely limit the amount of shots I can put out across the board. I find that unless i'm playing an army that needs a sit-and-stay unit for objectives (such as elite armies) blobbing my men is obsolete.

Kill points is an area that requires a good set-up, cover management, and target priority. I've won kill points with the few times I have played the scenario. Nothing in the army is expensive point wise, that is the saving grace! It's easier to kill 1 really expensive squad than 4 of mine. This is a list where you can't be afraid to sacrifice a squad in the emperors name to stop a lumbering monstrous creature/solo. When your Infantry Squad inevitably loses combat.. that creature/solo is as good as gone the next turn! Objective games are a piece of cake. You have 18 scoring units.

The reason my Company Command Squad is not in a chimera is because I didn't have the points to put them in one and also, as you can imagine, the board room is very.. slim.. If the Chimera does explode, there goes some of my Command Squad as well as any infantry around that Chimera. I need my bodies to take the least amount of friendly fire as possible. They're more useful to me as cover for another squad.

Now, my reason for not taking an Aegis Defense Line with Quad Gun is that it's 150 points that I really don't want to use towards giving 'Some' of my army cover saves. Usually, the goal with this list is to use other bodies as your cover. There's enough bodies, trust me. There's enough to do that AND wipe a wraith spam Necron player off the board. Also, I don't like Aegis because when deploying for an objective based game I place my markers away from me. The list is 'campy' but I need to use all my units. There's no room for objective corner-squatting. I say this because usually, I see players putting their objective within their Aegis line. That's the opposite of what I want. I don't want anything having to make its way into my lines.

**Short Version** Overall, the plan with the list is that you have more bodies than the opponent can kill. Anything that lacks the ability to multi-charge falls at the feet of the horde and the typical armor you see waltzing around is an easy pop with 11 Autocannons. Helldrakes give the list one nasty bruising though. So will a Tau gun-line, a large rush-heavy list, and possibly a list that runs a lot of AV 14. I appreciate any feedback ! Thanks!

Looks pretty solid

Although why melta guns in the infantry squads with auto cannons ??

And equipping the command squads with loads of special weapons is taking away essential orders IMO

Not sure where I was getting 150 either. Glad that's cleared up!

I threw a melta platoon in there because I did not want to rely on my Platoon Command Squads to really do all my tank hunting. Although the Autocannon is always stationary, they're there for the inevitability of an enemy making it up close. I know a Guardsmen with 1 shot is pretty much more miss in a hit-or-miss situation so i'm debating on just making ALL my squads plasma. My only problem with that is it causes my Platoon Command Squads to be targeted :/

Yea, I could drop those plasma guns in favor of more troop squads. Usually, my command squad doesn't see anything making it that close to them so it would probably be more beneficial. Going to see what I can do!

Should I drop the Hydras in favor of more guardsmen or another Vandetta? In a game where there is little/no planes they're just rendered useless. Also, the lack of the 'Interceptor' special rule really kicks them down. The list would be EXACTLY 2k if I dropped the Plasma Guns from the Company Command Squad and the Hydras in place of 2 Plasma/Autocannon Infantry Squads and 1 Melta/Autocannon Infantry Squad. Losing 2 plasma guns but gaining 3 Autocannons and 1 Melta.

Yea drop a hydra and in my opinion replace the meltas with plasma

Or if your worried about tank hunting you could have 1-2 hardened vet squads with meltas ??

I thought about vet squads with meltas being put into the Vandettas. I could take out both Hydras and the Plasma Guns from my CCS and make my Melta Platoon have Plasma instead and throw in 2 Vet squads with 3 meltas each into the Vandettas. It's more so an issue of large tanks. Land Raider or Leman Russ Spam.

So, lose my AA and 1 Plasma Gun for 6 meltas and 20 bodies. Or do that but throw my PCS into the vandettas and add in 30 more bodies like above.

I love foot-IG and I'm trying to make my own army, so I have a question for you. How do avoid making your autocannons move? Your 10-man squads have to stay together, including the autocannon, so if you want to move any amount you will usually have to move that heavy weapons platform and then you take a penalty to BS. I love the idea of "It doesn't matter if I have a 10% success rate when I try 100 times", but do your autocannons actually get things done without moving at all, or after moving?

I'm a newbie so I guess take my advice with a near-lethal dose of salt, but I'd agree with the others who say ditch the hydras for more troops. I'd say ditch the planes for more troops too but then you're not nearly as competitive.

Good questions Tydil!

Correct me if I am wrong but, as far as I know, in 6th you can move the squad mates within the squad without the HWT moving. That negates the BS penalty for the HWT. Remember, you can always string along a squad 2" from one another until that pesky team needs to move. Or you can move them into a position quickly that turn with 'run' or 'Move! Move! Move!' command and take the BS 1 penalty.

Surprisingly, the Autocannons do well and kill things. As do the Lascannon HWT teams. Guardsmen always need to fire at least 2 dice IMO to be effective seeing as their BS is a 3. You will usually hit 1 out of those 2 shots (on average). But, that is why we have commands as well!

The list revolves around you remembering to shoot EVERYTHING. Yes, even those crappy las pistols that don't benefit from 'First Rank FIRE! Second Rank FIRE!'. Even if you move, never EVER forget to shoot with that BS 1 HWT or special weapon. You may just roll that 6. It's all about target priority

I've been playing competitive IG since the start of 5th edition, but have been playing them since the end of 4th. Horde Guard is all about odds of someone killing 'x' things or how well you can kill 'x'. I did think about dropping Vandettas for a more 'Fun' list but competitively I don't see an IG list working without at least 2 Vandettas. They're my answer to Helldrakes currently until Hydras get Interceptor.
