So I have now picked up the new High Elf Army book after picking upo the Dark Elf one and I was struck by the fact that on both books there is it the new (to me at least) idea of Slaanesh devouring the Elf souls in what seems to be a straight port from 40K Eldar. We also now have waystones etc to store elf souls?

I don't recall this ever being part of the background in the past - and not something I think is a particualriy good inclusion............

Anyone seen it prior to these books and what do they think?

I don't tend to read any fluff at all, but High Elves are as vain as a very vain thing, so Slaanesh would find their souls pretty tasty...

Sounds about right to me how else are Daemons expected to beat an elf unit containing the BotWD.

I heard about this from the new DE book (mostly to do with the creation of the doomfire warlocks).

It's a real shame that it seems GW can't come up with enough creative ideas and have had to start directly importing fluff elements from 40K to WFB.

I always liked the fact that high and dark elves were mortal enemies in WFB and shared nothing except their elfish natures but the eldar and dark eldar in 40K have a strained relationship but will work together to protect each other from the predations of Slaanesh.

Having Slaanesh devour elf souls in WFB makes little sense in the context of the world as elves are not responsible for creating Slaanesh in WFB like the eldar are in 40K.

It makes even less sense to me when you consider that Slaaneshi cults exist in Dark Elf society (according to the Darkblade novels and the old Cult of Slaanesh variant army list at any rate).

I guess this is another of GW's (in)famous retcons.

Colour me annoyed by this too. Seems a little bit lazy and the whole thing about there already being 4 Chaos Gods (not of HE creation) really makes me think they just ported an idea they thought was cool from 40k. There is the whole 'cult of excess' link but that tends to be a DE thing and isn't really related to soul-eating, more just general worshipping.

It's part of the Daemon codex as well, but only mentioned in so far as the Keepers of Secrets. Far as I recall the other Slaanesh Daemons don't really mind, but its the Keepers of Secrets that like elf souls more than others (and thus as basically generals of Slaanesh forces might account for a higher rate of Slaanesh attacks on those people).
