In the last few games I've played I've included Vect in my army, mainly because I was tired of getting alpha struck. All 3 games I've used him I lost the roll of then stole the initiative (twice on a 6...) and that played a large part in me winning. He also preformed spectacularly in all 3 games, the only problem was that in both those situations he was against the optimum opponents and had a fair bit of luck. So I am worried if he is worth the points in an all comers list due to his certain short comings in AP 3 and a startling lack of eternal warrior. I am kind of biased at the moment, because in the last 3 games he has slaughtered his way through an entire PAGK army (wracking up 22 kills and 2 inquisitors, on his own!), Kharn and his posse as well as a Hive Tyrant and guard. Although to be fair, in 2 of those games he had access to fortune. All I can think of is that he would be screwed vs. 2+ saves and he is startlingly fragile (well, kind of. Against below strength 6 with bad AP his 4 wounds 4+ save and FnP is sort of good) which I found when he charged a unit of purgitators where I got extremely lucky where on overwatch he only got 2 hits, 1 wound and I made my 6+ ghostplate Invul which would of splattered me. I understand he is hell on wheels to anything with a 3+ save (Against PAGK's and Berserkers he was routinely killing 4 or 5 before they even struck) and has a surprisingly good ranged attack, so has anyone got any ideas about him? Is he ever worth it in a take all comers list?

Just a few questions rule wise about him.

1) Do the Orbs of despair wound against majority Ld the highest leadership or individual leadership. We rolled for it and we played it as I rolled to wound individually against the closest models, meaning I wounded the normal GK's on 2's until I got to the Justicar on 3's and the Inquisitor on 4's.

2) Do I have to use the pimp cane? Vect has a splinter pistol base, which counts as a CC weapon, and I was in the situation where I didn't want to kill the entire squad. So I used the splinter pistol instead, only killing one guy instead of 3 and letting me kill them on my opponents turn. It seems kind of anti-cinematic for Vect to put his pimp cane away and start pistol whipping people...

If you have multiple CC weapons you can choose which one you want to use, but you must declare that before your To Hit rolls.

I don't think it would be against the theme of Vect to use his pistol instead of his cane. DE are sadistic MoFo's and if he wanted to linger and toy with his victims while slaughtering some people I wouldn't say it was out of character for him to do so.

Vect is incredibly awesome. I use him extensively in my tournament lists. I feature him mainly in all foot Eldar and dark Eldar builds. Usually leading a maxed out beast master unit. Though I also slide him into 20 man warrior units to pound away with splinter weapons.

Don't forget about his preferred enemy everything which along with fearless transfer onto his unit.

The orbs wound against majority leadership.

In 5th edition you could not choose to use the pistol instead of the scepter. But I don't have my rule book on me to check for 6th.

You definitely need to sculpt a list around him in my opinion. But very viable in competitive play. Make sure you have ways to help him deal with 2+ armor saves.

I had a "deathstar" idea using vect, drahzar, 7 incubi, 1 incubi with the demiklaive all on the Dias of destruction. It's a ton of points but I think it would work. Also thought of using an archon instead of vect with a venom blade, phantasm launcher, combat drugs, shadow field, ghost plate, and a soul trap in a raider. I think vect is better the higher you go in points.

This is relevant to my interests, how does one make such a list happen?

Even better, is there a place for Wyches or Bloodbrides ior Lelith in a list like this?

Well a lot of it is about playtesting and comfortability. Then its making sure you either have creative ways to get what you want or multiple ways to cover the main opponents that are out there. In the end its about accepting that there may be one or 2 matchups that will be really hard to handle and either hoping to avoid them or be prepared to play really hard games sometimes.

So if going through a time line of recorded lists in large events: 1st 2 are old eldar codex

I attached links to results to at least demonstrate in a small way that these arent concept lists that Im coming up with in general terms but ideas that I have actually put into practice. As you can see the core idea is present throughout the evolution of the list, it fluctuates from dark eldar base to eldar base(next evolution is going back to dark eldar base), and includes evolution into the new eldar codex.
