Had a game yesterday when my friend's skimmer got immobilised while landing on impassible terrain.

I was playing Tyranids so that basically permanently put the skimmer out of my assault reach.

And i was wondering...what happens to the skimmer when it gets immobilised over impassible terrain? We couldn't find anything in the rules addressing that. Seems like a situation where it should wreck itself

The skimmer isnt destroyed.

Per rules, a skimmer is allowed to land in impassable if you can actually put the model there. If it's immobilized then it simply can't move. If an assault would require your models to go through impassable terrain to get to it then you can't assault.

Now, a better question would be: what if the skimmer is a transport vehicle and the impassable terrain is large enough that disembarking models can't get out without being in that terrain? In that case I'd say the models are stuck inside. Even better: same situation and the vehicle is wrecked? Fun times

Nah, if it is immobilised it stops the moment it touches the terrain. So those inside are not instagibbed.

The test isn't made until the skimmer ends its movement. It's able to fly over the terrain without issue.

Reread the skimmer rules on pg. 83. If the Skimmer moved Flat Out in the previous or current turn, its wrecked when it suffers an immbolized result. If the Skimmer is immobilized or wrecked, remove the base and leave it in place. If you can't remove the base, then leave the model floating. If it's wrecked, then it's a floating piece of battlefield debris.

Reading a little earlier on the page- "A Skimmer can even end its move over impassible terrain if it is possible to actually place the model on top of it, but if it does so, it must take a Dangerous Terrain test".

Nothing happens assuming the Skimmer did not move Flat out recently, and that it has already passed it's Dangerous Terrain test.

It didnt' move flat out it simply moved it's 12" ontop of the 'mountain' took it's dangerous terrain test and failed it. And we were left scratching our heads

The rule allowing a skimmer to be in impassable terrain doesn't change when it is immobilised, so it is just left there.

Makes for some interesting play.

Step 1: Play killpoints
Step 2: Take out all enemy units that can damage AV 12 from range
Step 3: Fly loaded up wave serpents and fire prisms over impassible terrain until immobilisation is achieved
Step 4: Sit back and dakka away!
Step 5: Aquire new identification and move to a different state, as you will likely be hated by everyone.

Or just park in impassable terrain - there's no reason to try and immobilize yourself.
