Hello All,

I am in dire need of your help, i have entered myself in a tournament at my local games shop and well i dont have the knowledge to go into this with confidence. The general rule behind this is at the beginning you buiold a 500pts list, this will be the core of the list and cant not be altered. Every few weeks points will be added to your lists to be spent. The issue i am encountering is that the units i purchase with the orginial 500 points i can not add or upgrade all i can do is add new units. So it is to you i ask for your help.

I am thinking of a list of 500pts consisting of:

HQ: Rune Preist: living lightning and jaws

Troops: 7 grey hunters w/ flamer and melta with a drop pod
10 grey hunters - w/ flamer and melta

Heavy: Long fangs - with missle launchers (maybe a lascannon)

Any advice on this would be great what would you recommend to be best for the next points and have i got a good structure for this kind of tournament?

Other models i have 3 drop pods, 2 rhinos, 1 land speeder, 10 blood claws and lukas, 4 long fangs, 6 thunder wolf cavalry, 1 lone wolf, 5 fenrisian wolves, 1 wolf lord and njal storm caller.

Thanks in advance.

For 500 points you are on the right direction, GHs with melta or plasma, rune priest and longfangs with MLs and a Las cannon for ap 2. When you go higher in points lets say 1000 play pods with 3 GH squads (10 man , melta or plasma no flamer you have rapid fire bolter for that role), 2 long fang squads with MLs and 1 or 2 Las cannon in its squad (use odd number of pods 3-5-7 or alpha strike half of them ). When you move higher than a 1000 points add flavor such as TWC or WolfGuard with combi or in TDA (keep them cheap). When you are between 1500 and 2000 you can add a thunderwolf bear lord to spearhead your attacks with the TWC which are mobile and great support for pods.

To sum up all you have to do is ask yourself the following questions for its point limit you reach: do i have enough troops? anti-tank (melta,Las)? anti-heavy infantry (plasma-melta-las)? anti-horde (rapidfire bolguns, flamers, frag missiles)? anti-flier (effective only with allies especially IG vendettas)? One or two tactics that maybe surprise my opponent? Thats all. I usually ignore flyer cause with a Drop Pod list you are in your opponents face turn one so he has lots of problems if he spams flyers and even worse if he plays second. As for the infamous helldrake that is the bane of spacewolves and in a tourney you ll face some for sure (the best solution is IG vendettas but try to figure out what works for your taste by reading some articles about how to face that threat)

Have fun Cheers!!!!

Personally, I would start with a 2000pts list that I am happy with. That way, I know what I am working towards and that minimises the risk of adding units that won't fit in the final list. I would then move backwards from my final list to the next points level, say 1750, and so forth until I am at 500pts.

I would then look at each list individually and judge whether I have enough anti-whatever for the given points.

Remember to keep your droppods on uneven numbers as far as you are able to. Mixing droppods and rhinos in an army is not a bad idea, the rhino squads would then mainly hold objectives or be mobile forces to help where needed and the droppods would be your main attacking squads.

Hi all, Good news my test games couldn't have gone better i won each game and never lost a unit . My list is:
HQ: rune preist -100pts ( living lightning, Jaws)
Troops: Grey hunters x 7 - 105pts
Flamer - free
drop pod - 35pts 140pts
grey hunters x 9 - 135pts
Flamer - free
Heavy: Long fangs x 5 - 75pts
Missile launchers x 2 - 20pts
lascannon - 25pts
heavy bolter - 5pts.
500pts

First match was against farsight enclave and well i only lost 2 grey hunters in close combat with farsight. the issue was that he spread out to much in his deployment allowing me to drop in and shoot everything to peices.

second match was against space wolves a complete wolf list of which yet again i dropped in and within the first turn all the little wolves were killed apart from 3 out of 20. Then it was just kill canis.

third match was against an altered list of space wolves with njal and grey hunters. This was a bit more difficult i dropped in and beat a squad of hunters. i left njal to it as he was focused on my long fangs. i denied the witch a couple of times which was lucky. in the end we ran out of time but i was winning at the time

thanks for all the advice guys.
