Hey Dakka,
So I have always been confused on how the cannon actually works as far as being treated as a template.

The book says to place it 12 inches away with the narrow end being the rearmost section and treat as a normal template.

Is this pretty much a normal flamer template that you can just place 12 inches farther?

Or is it that the template upon being placed gives a guideline for a bigger template like:
<Template)
..\_____/
...\____/
....\ __/
.....Gun
And then anything between the template and the gun get hit as if you just created a large template?

From a logical standpoint, looking at all the pictures of the hellhound's gouts of flame it heavily suggest the latter, but since it never clarifies I am confused.>

I though it was a torrent flamer.

Current profile on the BRB for inferno cannon is torrent. up to 12" with flamer going in any direction except backwards.

Only models under the template are hit (well, technically the unit is hit a number of times equal to the number of models under the template - for the pedants), not all models between tank and template. Think of it as a stream of fire being launched upwards, arcing over and landing ontop of the target.

Ah okay, that makes sense. Thank ye chaps for the clarification.

Cheers,

The reason why it is used at all is that directionality of it lets you hit whole units instead just a few models in the middle of a unit. Its very specialized it will either win you games or be essentially useless.
