I'm re-reading the rules of Calgar as I am tempted to try him out.

1) Gauntlets of ultramar, it is written that they can be combined and fired as a range weapon with the profile under it. Does it mean that we use this weapon twice in the shooting phase or does this mean that the combined profile is what the write up means.
(I ask because a normal storm bolter alread is Assault 2, so its weird that they deliberatelly write that you can combine them to shoot)

2) God of war. Are these abilities still usable if Calgar dies?
I would say yes because it is not specifically written that while he is on the battlefields, these abilities can be used....(like on some other independant character, like Sicarius for example)
But i have a doubt since I saw a tactica on him that had someone in the comments say that all his army buffs are not available once he dies.

* I have to say that NewGW impresses me a lot...

As for 1, it's clear, you use both to get to shoot. You just use the profile given.

For 2, can you usually use the abilities of a warlord or character when they are not on the board without specific wording?

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.
