Hi all!

I'm playing in an escalation tournament, and next stage is 1400 points.
At 1200 points I got pretty hosed with my 2x 5 ML LF setup, so I'm ditching those, in the only game I have won, they contributed with 39 points killed...

I would like to try this next:

HQ:
Rune Priest with Chooser, runic armour, warlord (joining drop pod) Jaws, LL
Rune Priest with Chooser, on a bike (joining TWC) Jaws, Storm Caller

Elite
Wolf Guard, 1 TDA with heavy flamer and PS (joining RP squad), 1 TDA with CML and power axe, 8 power armoured with 1 combi-flamer, 2 combi-melta, 4 combi-plasma in a drop pod

Troop:
7x GH with flamer, standard, MotW in drop pod
10x GH with 2 plasmaguns, standard, MotW in drop pod
6x GH with meltagun, standard, in lasplas Razorback

Fast:
3x TWC with 1 PF and 2 SS

I know, the razorback is fragile, like a painted egg, but I need a mobile unit, plus, it can block LoS on the first turn for the TWC.
The Wolf Guard team mocked a 10 man termie squad and the heavy flamer + flamer + jaws kicked some Tau "behinds", so they worked, the Long fangs didn't.

Any idea how to make the TWC more survivable?
Drop the razorback squad and bring a Vindicator and more TWC?

What was the problem with your Long Fangs exactly? Did they have an ADL to play with? Was the enemy focusing on them so they didn't live long? Where they always deployed in cover if there was no ADL? Long Fangs are a solid Heavy Support choice. They are an efficient way to get a ton of S8 AP3 shots. You don't need them, but I'm curious why they weren't working out.

TWC die to volume of fire. Nothing fixes that. Hide them on Turn 1 and get them in combat ASAP. Storm Shields are pretty much mandatory, which sucks since it increases the point cost per model by over 50%.

Your Wolf Guard should enjoy on going success. Its hard to deal with that kind of hit on Turn 1. Drop Pods period are hard for people to deal with, and you stuck enough firepower in there to be truly annoying.

I tried a few iterations: Long Fangs with Rune Priest giving divination, Long Fangs behind ADL, even GtG, giving them another ablative wound in form of a Wolf Guard... with everything else in a drop pod, they were the fire magnets.
Cover doesn't help, if your 3+ is better than what the cover would give, but your opponent is shooting with a Wave Serpent, or tau markerlights or a riptide, or IG leman russ, or CSM forgefiend, or dark eldar reavers...

I just hope T5 and 3++ will help.
Points wise the bike and the 3 TWC cost the same as 2x 5 ML LFs, so the question is, are they worth it?

You know your razorback is going to give first blood away almost all the time? Seen as the majority of your army is either fast moving or in pods I think you can get away with not having it. Plus you need a back field objective sitter. Your small squad of grey hunters can fill this role
