so my son (hes 10) has started to get into battletech on the computer.
hes been playing mechwarrior 4 mercenaries and mechwarrior online.
what i was wondering is are there any other comparable games out there for the xbox 360 or even for the computer?
its been awhile since ive seen a mech game that i can think of.
Admitedly its still battletech but theirs Mechwarrior tactics which is a digitised format of the original game battletech, I've got a spare beta key if you and your son are interested.
It's very good and browser based so has the ease of access
If you're simply looking for current Mech combat games...
M.A.V. by Bombdog Studios is a spiritual successor to Chromehounds- it's computer based, and currently in early Alpha, but you can get Early Access (ala Minecraft) for cheap- just 10 dollars right now, I think. There's also a Facebook contest for free keys.
There's the Armoured Core series- I think they're on V now? No idea how the current ones play- but it's a more fast-paced, anime-esque mecha game.
Obviously, Mechwarrior games of all kinds.
Land-Air combat (not sure what the whole name is) is a sort of RTS Tower Defense Mecha Air Combat game thing.
There's a few others, too. Check out Google to find some, and I think Steam Greenlight might have some too.
GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.
If yer an Ork, why dont ya WAAAGH!!

Unfortunately mech sims seem to be a pretty dead area these days. It's a real shame because TrackIR is just begging to be applied to them.
Although for the XBOX360 there's Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor. That uses the Kinect to let you actually "manipulate the controls" in the cockpit as you play. Unfortunately pretty much everyone agreed that game was terrible, both because it was a cruel mockery of the original (which was about as niche as a niche game can be, admittedly) and because the motion controls didn't actually work too well.

Yeah. For something so cool, giant robots don't get a lot of love from video games on the playable end of things. At best they pop up as a vehicle the player gets to hop into now and then.
Mech Assault was 'meh' at best, but at least it was a solid game right?
Played it a bit. Didn't think it was very fun, but that might be a combination of: 1. me being really new to console games when I tried it (so I was incredibly horrible), and 2. having come fresh from playing Mech Warrior 3 (which was one of the best mech games I have ever played...so darn unstable though).

Yeah that was it for me too. had I never played a Mech Warrior game, Mech Assault probably would have seemed a lot better. But I had and while I feel it was a good game, it also realized it wasn't all it could be :(
It's a bit old, but Mechcommander and Mechcommander 2 are both great.
The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Truth. They're strategy rather than "proper" 'Mech games where you're piloting them yourself, but they got the setting and mechanics down right, and the gameplay and campaign are both great fun.
I've had some trouble running them again on my newer machine, but I'm sure they'd work better with some more fiddling.
thanks guys.
he loves the mech assault series but may be graduating a bit up from it.
thank you for the suggestions, ill check them out and any more added this weekend.
