Hello Guys,

I have a few quick questions for you. All related to water effects.

Water effects that are available for me are: Vallejo Still Water Effect and Extra Heavy Transparent Gel.

Dakka and google helped me with "how to?" part of my query, but still there are things I am uncertain about. I will do the "testing" but first I want to know if there is something that I shouldn't do. I just don't want to waste my stuff... BTW - that will be my first time with water effects.

So if anyone had any experience with water effects:

- Can I build up water effect so it supports istelf? I mean, if I create waterfall that falls from thin air - will it stand straight? Is water effect rigid or elastic after it dries? Can it be treated as structural element?

- Can I mix water effect with inks?

Thank you for your time.

Cheers.

I know that there are secondary products that make the waterfalls and stuff like that. I haven't used them so I don't know exactly.

As to water effects. Its basicaly just a clear resin. Things I have learned from using it on bases.

DON'T pour more than 1/8" at a time. Let it cure for 24 hours before you add the next layer.

Yes you can add inks to it to change the color. but painting underneath works really well too.

Have a toothpick handy when pouring it so you can pull the bubbles to the top and pop them.

Yes they can be used to support other elements on a base and such.

Good luck

A water effects waterfall needs an armature of some sort to start with. A bit of rigid wire, painted white, should work. They take a long time and many coats to perfect.

For deep water get hold of some crystal clear resin - its used as a replacement for glass paste. You can pour that pretty deep (up to 2" or so) in a single pour.
