Stormraven +3 Grav Centurions = erase an enemy unit or two, or three.... once I even got four.

Been running this since the book hit and it has been awesome. Move 36", Skies of Fury Drop them right behind the Raven's base. When I can, I try to drop near a DP with a Locator Beacon, or drop the Cents on the second turn in and use the SRaven's beacon to avoid scatter. I can be selective in my firing and positioning. With the Raven (assuming it survives interceptor) and the split fire on the Cents, you can target 4 different units if needed. Even if you need to scatter, the Cents are all two wounds, so DT checks aren't that scary. I've chewed up Riptides, Wave Serpents, a Primarch (focus fired Konrad ), LR squads, Paladins, good times. Heavier Interceptor Tau can cause issues, but I can usually kill of low hanging fruit outside of Crisis Suit range.

Its pricey, but the Raven can really help and in my local meta (which is always a little melta heavier than the norm), its better than a LRC.

Certainly not foolproof, but done good in the current meta. Helped my team get second in a good sized local tourney (Hammer Anvil TauDar beat us).

That's actually not a bad use of the Stormraven at all.

My friend was doing this for a while.... great tactic. Especially if you season your list with Locator beacons. then you are not limited but instead enjoy a bunch of options for safely deep striking in.

If you want to get fancy, there's even an extra slot to throw in an HQ to tank wounds or a Libby for invisibility or whatever. I've seen some people running Tiggy with Cents... might not make sense for a small squad like this, but that option remains.

Wow, that sounds nasty and would make Cents genuinely scary. Not being an expert on that codex, or even a novice, how is "split fire" letting them hit so many targets? I'd assume it would only let the squad target two units at a time.

Squad shoots at two, PotMS and the Storm Raven hit two too. Sorry if that was unclear.

He's included the SR as part of the 4 targets I assume. Cents with omniscope 2 targets SR with POTMS for the other 2

I guess the OP answered that fast

D'oh, I can't believe I forgot about POTMS.

As long as you don't try this with any scary interceptor weapons available it could be a great tactic. Cents are great for their ability to erase something important with extreme prejudice and stormravens are a nice delivery method and to ensure a beta strike for the cents so they don't get whittled down turn 1. The DS is actually very safe as 2 wounds 2+ and a 24" range means you do not have to DS next to enemy units and you are pretty safe from dangerous terrain.

However be cognizant if there is an interceptor+skyfire HBC w/buff commander and you try to do this you deserve to loose the unit when the stormraven crashes and burns. S10 hits on every model will make short work of the unit.

Interceptor is at the end of all movement. The cents will bail before that happens.

Definitely a solid tactic and could work very well. Its actually a pretty good Anti Wave Serpent/Riptide Strategy for an All Reserves list. Box them in, then Drop in the Cents and watch them Scramble. Could put a Chapter Master in there with AA and a Storm shield or Shield Eternal to tank the enemies Reprisal.

Stands a good chance of dropping two Wave Serpents or a Riptide/Wraithknight the turn it arrives. Could be a very powerful build with 2x Ravens 2x Centurion Squads, just requires allying/playing Sentinals of Terra. 900points brings all the AA your list could need plus enough AT and the answer to Wave Serpents/Riptides/Wraithknights/MCs. On Average its capable of killing 3.5 Wave Serpents the turn it arrives. Damn.

Just make sure you use the Storm Raven Base to prevent the Centurions from being charged the turn they arrive. Best part is you can't lose the squad to Interceptor as they are placed on the table before the end of the movement phase interceptor.

So you are running ...

3 Centurions - 3 Grav Cannons w/Grav Amp, 3 Hurricane bolters, Omniscope 300
+
Stormraven TLLC TLMM 200

That's 500 points.The unit better work well.

Fair enough, though you then need to worry about EWO IA riptides. Even still you should get off a decent shot even if it kills 1 of your cents.

It's funny, you all are saying watch out for Interceptor... My first game with this unit, the stormraven came in and was promptly shot to hell, crashed, and all centurions were instakilled.

Well your Centurions were still in the Storm Raven, that's the first problem. Second is they weren't outside of the Storm Raven shooting. Third mistake is see mistakes one and two.

Your math is off, its only 460pts.

You get Devastator Centurions where they need to be and you get a Storm Raven. That isn't bad at all.

Actually if you sent that against my tau, i'd intercept the flyer if you didnt disembark the cents for some reason but otherwise feth the flier im zapping the cents. They still count as coming from reserves this turn.

It's a solid offensive option. Probably the best use of Dev Centurions outside of an O'Vesa star.

Interceptor fire from a Riptide is far less scary than non-interceptor, markerlighted/chipped fire from a Riptide.

It's a risky play. If something goes wrong you lose a huge portion of your points, and likely the game.

If the opponent intercepts it, it never shows up, or the opponent jams your reserves, you're SOL.

You can disembark the cents the turn you come on so you really shouldnt encounter problems with them being killed from the stormraven crashing. Honestly, the worst that could happen is they deepstrike oodly and get intercepted by a riptide, killing maybe 1. Its honestly a good tactic since cents were rarely in range turn 1 with grav amps. I would swap the bolters out though since they dont mix well with the grav cannon's targets. Yes, its cheap, but i would go for something a bit better, especially since you might not be deepstriking in 12" range.

I'd keep the hurricane bolters for light targets. You never know what you're gonna have to shoot.

The hurrican bolters can also be great for stripping drones/low save from mixed units aka riptide (in case they tried to protect it from grav using them) and if daemons show up you will be very happy to have the bolters.
