So I'v recent got back into Tau and I'm looking to do a mostly gunline army(i did try to avoid crisis suits and vehicles but that didn't happen).

I wont go into full detail about my current set up(unless asked) but heres a quick breakdown of the list as it stands:

Fireblade and Ethereal: 110 Points

6 Firewarrior squads - 120 points each

2 Riptides: 410 Points

Stealth squad: 95 Points

2 Squads of Pathfinders: 60 Points Each

2 Hammerheads: 155 points each

Thats a total of 1765 if I'v done it correctly so I have 235 points left to play with.

Any suggestions? I could look into flyers or possibly broadsides, I do not want to have any kroot though.

I would do a skyray and a flyer if possible.. That would be a good approximate 2k list that would give me a hard time.

It might be overkill, but another squad of pathfinders might be good. You have 6 squads of fire warriors, it'd be nice to have extra markerlights for them and your riptides. Also, your pathfinders will be your enemy's first target in an alpha strike and in general, more will ensure that you get to benefit from them for longer. Most alpha-strikey lists can kill or severely thin out 2 pathfinder squads, it's harder to take out 3. Transports aren't the greatest, but they could be useful in that regard too. I know you wanted to avoid crisis suits, but a squad kitted out with plasma could be very useful against 2+ save targets, and give you a mobile element if you need it.

you look like you need more AA, i would suggest a Aegis Defense Line with quad gun and missilesides

Hmm some decent ideas, ill have a look and see what would work.

So yea had a play around with a few option from each suggestion. Sadly wasn't able to get both a flyer and a Skyray in so decided to add another 5 pathfinders for another 60 points.

Then it is one of the following:

Bastion with Icarus Lascannon and Quad-gun - 160

Or

Strike Fighter with Disruption Pods - 160

Or

Skyray - PDTR and dis pods - 140

Each of these take me close to the points limit, with the Skyray allowing some room for additional improvements.

Also while just having a look at riptide set ups on here I'v saw "ECPA" being used a bit? Could somebody just confirm what that stands for please?

I dont think you can take two gun emplacement weapons (if you can awesome and il have to re-look at da rule)

I think you would benefit more from a ADL than the bastion as it can cover far more of your 6 fire warrior teams.

I want to say change one hammer head into a Sky ray.

You still wont have too much anti air but it shouldn't be thaaatt much of an issue.

(edit all else fails fire the sky ray markerlights to bump your riptide to BS 4 which isnt bad. )

Whoops my bad I misread the bastion rules, you can only add one or the other. Well that frees up some points I guess lol

Yea thinking back then the ADL would be more use after a nice trick I picked up on how to use it lol.

Also figured out what ECPA is after a bit of googling, Looks like its something only in the Farsight supplement book which I won't really need.
