In my last game, i faced a Necron Scarab swarm along with spyders.
This situation came up:
I shot the scarabs with my Thunderfire cannon, using the str 6 shells and caused 5 unsaved wounds.
Keep in mind that scarabs are toughness 3 and have 3 wounds.
Now, the swarms rule that scarabs have, indicates that when hit by blast weapons, each unsaved wound causes another wound.
The way i interpreted the situation, on a wound to wound basis, the first unsaved wound is allocated to the closest scarab, causes instant death (as they are toughness 3) and this generates another unsaved wound that must be allocated to another scarab and causes instant death also.
That would result in 10 dead scarabs.
My opponenet argued that the generated wounds are instantly allocated on the same scarab and thus, each scarabs takes 2 instant death wounds.
That would result in 5 dead scarabs.
He also referred to the necron FAQ, and claimed it addresses this exact problem and clarifies the situation according to what he said.
I took his word for it and continued the game, removing 5 scarab bases.
I looked today in the necron FAQ but did not manage to find the appropriate entry.
Can someone help and point me in the right way?
Thanks!
