I've been running my ragtag SW minis for a little while in various stages of painting and modeling, but now that I've got enough bits to cover my bases my money/focus is shifting from "getting enough pieces to actually play" to "how can I make this look good?" With that philosophy in mind, I wanted to buy more models, more bits, and actually start remodeling what I have - paint it up and make something really interesting.

Now, the blessing of Space Wolves in general is that they are very individualistic and have a lot of character. The curse is, of course, that this leaves a million options. I'm thinking I want to play up the whole "space viking" aspect as much as possible, but I'm not sure exactly where to start with the actual modeling / modifying of the pieces. I'd like to do something slightly more ambitious than "keep gluing sprue bits on them."

The color scheme is throwing me as well. I haven't settled on what I need to do with that, other than that I'm not a huge fan of the stock blue-grey that the GW images typically has.

Anyone have any fantastic ideas for modeling /conversion? Or even better - links to their own Space Wolf projects/images?

Thanks guys.

Sadly I had most of my pics on an old imageshack account so here's an old photo of mahold very crappy painting abilities, but at least the colour is there.

I decided to go with a darker grey scheme, as how they are depicted pre-heresy. I like it way much more than the 40K blue (specially the last iterations where they turn bluer and bluer).

I look up some stuff on Google for you, found this:

I like the muted grey color.

You could make your blood claws (if you take any) with Axes and Pikes

Termis with Rounded shields (viking of course) for storm sheilds

Everyone gets furs on them and a cape/cloak.

You can paint them however you want, paint them black with grey, white with grey, or even snow camo.

I read this and got some inspiration for my SWs:

Good Luck and post some pics of what you decide!

Hi if you go to my gallery I have a few Space wolves painted and converted and if you have facebook theres a page just for SW. I have uniformed bases for squads.

Also blue-tac is your best friend, stick bits on your models with blue-tac if you like it take a pic then get rid of the tac and glue together

Green stuff is also great for making fur

Here is a link to my space wolves. I went with a retro color scheme, but muted it a bit and I think it works over all very nicely.

The base coat is the Foundation paints Frensian Grey. Seemed appropriate given the name. And while the color does have a blue hue to it, its not "Blue" if you know what I mean.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:
