Subject: Advice for a good 1500 Eldar list against Space Wolves

Greetings All,
I am a new Eldar player and I have a friendly game this weekend against my friend's Space Wolves. He will be bringing on drop pod full of terminators, one Landraider (also filled with terminators), one Predator, and one squad of Thunder Wolf Calvalry. Plus several squads of Grey Wolves to round out his army. I've never played against Space Wolves before and, quite frankly, all of these things look terrifying on paper. If possible, I was hoping to get advice on what a good 1500 point counter to this army would be. Below is my tentative first stab at a list:
HQ (105) - Farseeer w/ Singing Spear
Troops (418) - 3 x 3 squads of Jet Bikes,
10 x Dire Avengers in Wave Serpent w/SL, HF
Heavy Support (515) - Fire Prism w/HF
3 x War Walkers with BL
3 x D-Cannons
Fast Attack - 7 x Warp Spiders (133)
This leaves me approximately 329 points to play with. I was thinking adding a unit of Wraith Guard w/ D-Scythes and maybe another 6 x Warp Spiders. What changes/revisions would you recommend I make to this list? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

I like bikes but in this edition and against wolves they will not survive, they can take objectives if careful. The wolves can not score so you have that helping you. I would try to take more serpents with 5 man DA. If taking wraithguard take a spiritseer to go with them and make them troops I do agree the D-Scythes are nice but the wraithguard fall quickly to concentrated fire, but against termies and beasts should do well if not locked in CC - he will kill you in cc so avoid it... I like wraithknights a lot for their fire power and mobility - double d will kill things instantly and the suncannon variant will kill a lot of wolves

Great advice! Thanks very much. Unfortunately, I don't own a Wraith Knight as of yet but I plan to get one in the not too distant future. As for the bikes, yes, I was planning mainly on keeping them in reserve and using them to contest/hold objectives late in the game. I will definitely take your advice about avoiding CC with him at all costs. I thought about perhaps taking Wraith Blades for CC but then decided that it would be a waste of points as they would be little more than a speed bump. I will look at adding another Wave Serpent per your recommendation. Thanks!
"drop dire avengers from serpent, add wraith gaurd with scythes to serpent.
get mantle of the laughing god for your seer, and a bike.
have fun. "
Also great advice! Thanks for the insight. Just so I understand though, you would advise totally dropping the Dire Avengers altogether? Or keeping them, but putting the Wraith Guard in the Wave Serpent instead of them?
Follow up question, since it is an objective game, what are your thoughts on using a 20 man Guardian blob to sit in the backfield with my objective?

With all the things you have listed for the Space Wolves player...
If he is running a Wolf Lord with the TWC, that's over 200 points alone, 3 TWC is also around 210, Landraider is Wolf Guard, elite, with a TDA HQ that's 400 points plus the HQ plus any equipment he buys for the termies, another Wolf Guard in pod is another 200+...
Leaving him with 2 squads of Grey Hunters, and I'm betting on 2x 10 man squads in drop pod.
So the weak spot of his list is the troop choice. Get rid of that, and you can win with the jetbikes on objectives.
D-Scythe Wraith Guard are excellent against him, and if you play it mobile, another Wave Serpent will get rid of his troops with just weight of fire alone (also Rending).
Drop the TWC with the D-Cannons, by positioning the template over the models without Storm Shield.
I suggest you put the war walkers in reserve, and arrive-shoot with them after he landed the termie drop pod.
He will undoubtably HATE your heavies. He has a terribly low model count (4 TWC, 11 TDA, 2 tanks, and likely 20 power armour), every AP2 will hurt him, a lot.
Oh and definitely pick mantle of the laughing god, because unless he brings a flamer, he doesn't have anything against cover saves.

"D-Scythe Wraith Guard are excellent against him, and if you play it mobile, another Wave Serpent will get rid of his troops with just weight of fire alone (also Rending)."
Great advice! Thanks very much for your recommendations. I completely forgot about how expensive all of his heavy hitters are. From talking with him, I believe you are correct in that, at most, he will only be able to field 2-3 squads of Grey Hunters(?) as his troop choices. As such, here is my new list:
HQ - Farseer w/ SS
Spiritseer
Troops - 5 x Wraith Guard w/ D-scythes; Wave Serpent w/ HF, SC, SL
7 x Dire Avengers; Wave Serpent w/HF, SC, SL
2 x 3 Jet Bikes
Fast Attack - 2 x 5 Warp Spiders
Heavy Support - 3 x War Walkers w/BL
2 x Vaul's Support Battery (3 D-Cannons/3 Shadow Weavers)
The plan is to barrage snipe his TWC and other troops as they slog up the board. The 6 x BL shots will be Guided by the Farseer to hopefully take out his Landraider full of terminators in the first or second turn. The Jet Bikes will be held in reserve and are for last minute objective grabbing. The Wave Serpents will focus on destroying his Grey Hunter squads and the Wraith Guards and Dire Avengers will mop up the survivors.
Any thoughts/feedback/recommended changes are greatly appreciated.
FYI, the game is tomorrow, so any tactical advice for this list and/or playing Space Wolves would also be appreciated.

This list looks quite good. I'd mount the Farseer on a jetbike for increased mobility. Give her guide, prescience, and psychic shriek. Moreover, I'd give the Warwalkers scatterlasers and let the Farseer guide them. I'd drop the D-cannons and make the army more mobile.
Don't run Wraithguard since they are heavily overpriced. If you want a hard hitting unit say against WG Termies or a LR, then take Fire Dragons.

Just wanted to give an update on my list and how the game went since I had my 1500 point game against the Space Wolves today. I used the following list:
HQ - Mantarch
Farseer
Troops - 2 x 3 Jet Bikes
5 x Dire Avengers; Wave Serpent w/HF, SC, SL
Elites - 5 x Wraith Guard w/ D-scythes; Wave Serpent w/HF, SC, SL
Fast Attack - 8 x Warp Spiders
Heavy Support - 3 x War Walkers w/BL
2 x Vaul's Support Battery (2 x Shadow Weavers/ 3 x D-Cannons)
My opponent conceded in the fourth turn and I ended up winning 9-4, with 2 objectives, Slay the Warlord, Line Breaker, and First Blood.
Overall I thought my list was solid but I'm not sure how much of it was due to my opponent putting all of his eggs into one basket (assault). He decided not to use his Drop Pod and instead slogged up the board trying to wreck me in close combat. This gave me three full turns of shooting at him while he was out in the open. Ultimately, I'm not sure if the list/my strategy was good or if my decisive victory was due to the fact that he, quite literally, brought a knife (and a bunch of power fists) to a gun fight.
For my list, the Vaul's Support Batteries, Mantarch, and Wraith Guards were the stars of the game. The Wraith Guards took out a squad of terminators and the Vaul's Support Batteries destroyed his 500+ point Thunder Wolf Cavalry with a tricked out Wolf Lord leading the charge. The D-Cannons were absolutely brutal and earned their points back just by taking out the Wolf Lord. The Mantarch's fusion gun put knocked off the last hull point on the is Landraider and he managed to win close combat against 10 Grey Hunters with his Laser Lance and then Hit and Run out of there the next turn.
All in all I'm pretty happy the with the list, but I suspect that next game, my opponent will be a little smarter about marching straight into the teeth of my whole army.
Thanks to all who gave advice and suggestions!
