Ok people,

Currently my SW army is mostly unpainted with the only partially painted models being second hand purchases. Now I would like to have them painted and as I am useless in the visual arts, I have decided to commission someone to do it for me.

This is where you come in. I would like to get some feedback on possible colour schemes if you would.

The basic idea is that I would like them to stand out from the traditional SW armies but still have some links with the traditional schemes so that one can see they still are Space Wolves.

First Idea
Head: Caucasian, combination of white, grey and black hair with wolf-yellow eyes. Woad markings on some models.
Armour: White. Runic armour would be white with light blue veins
Shoulder pads: Left pad yellow, right pad white. Left patch would show in which great company the whole army is (all will thus have the same insignia) I would like the right pad to indicate rank, but not sure how I would do this, either with colour or other insignia.
Fur: Browns, Greys and Blacks
Trinkets: Combination of yellow and blue depending on the source. Blue for all indications of power (wolf claws, magic items etc.)
Base: Black slate with bright green grass in between.

What do you mean by "rank" on the right pad. Normally you'll put the pack marking there (the good old red/yellow for Blood Claws; red/black for Grey Hunters; white/black for Long Fangs).

The white armours sounds good and amuses me, since it kinda reminds me of pre-heresy World Eaters, and when C:SW came out some called it Codex: Khorne xD

Wow... Dark, you just opened a new world for me. Never really looked at any pre-heresy models before. The world eaters look uncomfortably familiar to another idea I had... all the blood...

With regards to the ranks. I thought maybe Nordic/Viking numbers or letters and/or colours as you have stated (red/yellow, red/black etc.)

The colours would just have to fit in the overall colour scheme

How about knotworks or vikingr imagery?

I for one love the hrafnsmerki. the "crow of victory" (which was used by Harald "Hardrada". Perhaps it could work for the Wolf Guard.

I think they might look alittle white scarish, what about mixing light grey and white 50/50 that means you still remain true to space wolves being grey but not the normal wolf colours

TBH I did think of that. I was thinking of having 2 test models, one with 50/50 and one just white. I'm hoping the yellows and blues will be enough to differentiate them from the white scars.


Dark: I browsed a bit and for now I decided to add Mjolnir, Odin's horns and Odin's spear to the pool of rank markings.
