Hello everyone. What you would say on dow de made for game boy? the original game boy? I have soem progress, and there will be more soon.
Opinions are welome as always.
Below is Cyru's and Devian thule's inventory screen.

Game cartridge

Box art

Soon I will have some more graphics done, and few other things. This is part of my school's project. I am studing video game design and with this task we have to learn about hard wear limitations and style of the games. It would be easier if I ever had in my hand a gameboy, but I think so far so good.

There is a huge scene for this kind of stuff if you can release it on a actual cart. Could make yourself a fair bit of money if you can complete it 100%.

Do you have any game play video's yet?

No not realy, sadly the point is only to just create several graphics, I don;t know codding yet either.

But I might try to actually do it during my holidays, or as my final diploma project.

It wouldn't be that hard I think.

But what about copy rights issues?

Well.. I'm not entirely sure what your asking.

If you are asking whether people want to play DOW on an old game boy, my guess would be *maybe*; as very few people even have one of those anymore. Although, as with any old thing there is always a small underground group that keeps it alive.

But that's ignoring an underlying problem. Namely that you couldn't possibly release a game using GW's trademarked property without their permission anyway. Said permission is very unlikely to happen. However, you can always just ask them and see what they say.

If you are asking whether it is a worthy school project, then the answer is absolutely yes. Learning the limitations of the hardware your code will be running on is actually very important - I have a long background in programming. Further, the easiest way to learn something new is by combining it with something you enjoy.

So, my hat is off to you for tackling this project. The screen shot looks very nice. Good luck with it!

Well game boy games can be played on pc and other devices. There are such things such as emulators.

Still this is just hypothetical project.

Maybe I could try to make a title free to play, but still GW are ass hats.

I'd love to play that. I play loads of Game Boy games on my smartphone, so it'd be cool.

I'd like to see any good 40k game under the GBA title

I've got a GBA/NDS emulator, but the touchscreen mechanics suck.

Oh come on! GW has been giving video game licenses to just about any Joe off the street that has a few thousand bucks in his pocket. GW has its cup out and is rattling around the change. If you want a license from GW, grab it now for a pittance, but make sure you keep your rights if the company gets bought out!

If you didn't try to make a profit on it, GW would probably be fine with it, much as they are fine with all the 40k tribute vids on YouTube.

I didn't figure you did, but I thought the point was amusing. And you should be wary about a lawsuit from GW. Just because you don't think it would make sense to sue you doesn't mean GW won't.

Anyway, good luck and have fun with it. Be careful if you try to distribute it or sell it, and seek some professional advice.

The vids are oft not monetized...
(Though they may still have ads on them to grant google some £££)

That was not what I meant.

I was curious whether you really meant that GW would be OK with somebody using their IP for a project like that without permission. That's the company that shut down the Blood Bowl fansites, axed the Damnatus fan film after already having given their permission at first and has the nerve to graciously allow you to paint and convert their models in their terms of use, never mind claiming to have invented Roman numerals on shoulder pads.

The YouTube tributes probably only exist because it's pretty impossible to turn this kind of artistic output into money. Whenever GW suspects that it could even make a single dime offering something that's been offered by someone else for free, they'll move into action.

Huh. I didn't see it that way around.

Well. If a small project such as what we are suggesting got shut down, that's a pretty poor reflection on GW.

Much like many things they have done over the years...

Damn you Gee Dubs!
